Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread

I wouldn't expect scientific studies to offer any real insight why we find the character of one synthesizer's sonic character more pleasant than another one's anytime too soon. You certainly can't make any definitive conclusions based on one single clip, but the sound of the filter is a good ...

Re: The New Tom Oberheim SEM Thread

you people must be brainwashed to hear a difference, I can barely hear anything and i monitored in both my adam a7s and beyerdynamic dt770s Eh, there's a clear difference. Listen to the filtered part for starters. The other has the characteristics of a vintage synth as it has a more irregular-sound...

Re: Tom Oberheim to show new synth on Wednesday?

Thank you for providing the samples. Since I'm not a regular poster on this board I'll have the guts to say upfront that there is a clear difference between the two (I'm using a pair of Yamaha MSP-10s for monitoring and placed both sides to the middle of the stereo image muting the channels individu...

Re: Can I use speakers instead of monitors

Some stereo speakers are better for monitoring than some of the cheaper, smaller monitors. Studio monitors are not meant to sound nice, but to provide an accurate reproduction of what's going on in the mixes. If you get monitors in the end then keep the speakers for reference listening anyway - you'...

Re: Drool Ye, Drool Ye

The scary part is that I could instantly recognize whose JD-800 that was.

No way have I been spending too much time on the internet.

Re: New Vintage : Korg SV-1

The tube would seem to impart its sound on it, even when judged by the clip. I think I recognize that distortion from driving a small guitar head with a rompler (and no. digital emulations usually don't sound too much alike). That doesn't however mean that placing just one preamp tube there would re...

:? Why? It's a stage piano, not a synth.
Well, file that comment of mine under "not that terribly good a joke" -category.

Re: Minimoog vs ARP 2600

The resonant blips etc. are quite similar to what I can get out of the Voyager actually (or, rather, I was far better at getting stuff like that out of the thing when I first got the synth and didn't know what I was really doing ). I mean, just a tiny bit of vintage chorus / analog delay on it and w...

Re: weird electronic smell

It's pretty normal with especially cheaper models (which is not to say that you shouldn't avoid it). It happens especially with bass patches, since reproducing lower frequencies at higher volumes demands a lot more from the units themselves. Most likely it has nothing to do with the tweeter, I'd dar...

Re: korg poly-61 vs korg poly800 vs korg dw-8000

I have a perverse preference for the 61's looks. If I didn't had an EX-800 already I would have most likely searched a Poly-61 for myself. But since the Poly / EX-800 -experience hasn't been all that I was hoping for - and I wasn't really hoping for much - I'd most likely skip any prospect of ...
