Not to be pedantic, but I believe you mean analogue filters, not oscillators.jx8p wrote:Apart from the JX-8P beautiful strings, the coolest analog strings i've ever heard are the Emu Emulator 2's (even though the samples are digital, its analog oscilators make it sound real), they sound like an orchestra.

Sequential used to do that too, although I think their forte was odd graphics rather than slogans.

Although I'm not a big fan of the Matrix-6, that is a steal. At that price, anything better than a FB-01 is a good value.

Re: Dust Covers
It's never been an issue for me. I've used green, clear and black garbage bags for almost 20 years without incident. I can't see a small static charge to the chassis being any great issue either. Wearing wool socks on a dry winter's day before touching a synth's front panel (which I've done) would g...

Re: Dust Covers
I use garbage bags.
Why?
1. They keep dust off.
2. They're cheap.
3. When they do get a little dusty, I pull them off, put new ones on, and use the "old" ones for their originally intended purpose.
It's not the most aesthetically pleasing system, but it works.

Re: Current Akai MPC-series question
Thanks for the reply; I was afraid of that. One could do a really long sample, certainly, but since the technology has been there for over two decades to do credible crossfades it makes little sense that they'd leave it off entirely. There's something about creating that damned near perfect loop tha...

Current Akai MPC-series question
Just a question for owners of the current crop of Akai MPC-series samplers (specifically the MPC-1000 but also, I suppose, the -500 and -2500). Do these things offer crossfade looping on samples? I downloaded the manuals and seached without success. Unless technology has moved on recently in a way I...

Re: HORRORS SYNTHS -MOOG??! HELP!! :D
Whoever said the LP sounds digital is a moron. The truth, she be spoken. I've seen so much misinformation about the LP being "a VA", being "chock full of DSP" and "sounding digital" it makes me want to do a year's worth of facepalming. I'm beginning to consider the possibility that some people - ju...

Re: Which Synth Had The Worst User Interface Ever?
I'm tempted to be snarky and say "any synth starting with the letters TX or DX", but I've read the DX1 is pretty good to deal with given the plethora of graphics and screens. But yeah, I have to say the TX81Z was pure, unadulterated tedium. Next to doing my taxes, it's up there in the ennui and frus...

the sound of every 90s cop show! ...and at least two seasons of The X-Files . I bought a Wavestation right when it came out in 1990. It was one of the first 25 "buggy" units that had a weird tic in the LFO section that caused sawtooth waveforms to run at speeds unrelated to the actual paramet...

Re: Anyone regret getting Voyager Old School?
In my purely personal opinion, they DO sound like Minimoogs, in fact they sound JUST like Minimoogs, just weirdly clean and well behaved. It's not like it's another flavor of sound to add to your arsenal. It is the stepford-wife Minimoog. It stays in tune perfectly, it's dead quiet, you don't get d...

Re: Analog strings from something besides a "string machine
Another vote for a JX-10/MKS-70. But only if the chorus circuit is on. Speaking generically, any synth that can scale the PWM's LFO rate so that it increases as one moves up the keyboard is on the right track. Having one constant LFO speed across the entire keyboard generally results in bass notes t...

Re: The Moog Source reliability
That's an odd assessment. I owned a Source for a number of years; flawless in every way aside from the slightly dodgy octave switches. I've also owned a Little Phatty for the last year and a half. To me the Source always had a good sound, but it was just lacking that last bit of oomph that would mak...
