Re: oberhiem matrix 6

I never could make myself fall in love with the Matrix-6 (actually it was a 6R in my case). It sounded too mannered and polite for my tastes. Your ears may tell you different.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

I'm with Joey on this one. If anyone is in possession of one that they find disappointing I will be glad to remove that particular burden from their hands.

Re: The Moog Source reliability

I owned a Source for three years. It was already a decade old when I bought it, but the membrane panel never gave me a lick of trouble. Funny enough, the octave switches (which used traditional mechanical buttons, not membrane switches) were the only part of the synth to ever misbehave. Rather ironi...

Re: Strangest thing you ever found inside a synth

As mentioned in my CS-15 thread, I've found a paperclip and that was about it.

Re: Winky reviews the CS-15 (Advisory: long-windedness, ho!)

Regarding my mods for CS-15, i just wanted to let you know a new update will come and it will include high frequency (up to few kHz) LFO modification. Switch ON/OFF on the backs provided. More on that once i complete the PDF. Those looking for the old version of Don Solaris CS-15 Mods can find it h...

Re: Winky reviews the CS-15 (Advisory: long-windedness, ho!)

One other odd observation about the CS-15 that occured to me after posting.. You can't tell it's a CS-15. Let me rephrase that. There is nothing other than a small model number designation on the requisite serial identification plaque to tell the prospective player or owner that this is a CS-15. Con...

Winky reviews the CS-15 (Advisory: long-windedness, ho!)

I recently bought a Yamaha CS-15 from fellow VSE member Joey. As I continue exploring it I've come to be really quite fascinated by this machine. It feels like a true child of the '70s with its live controls and chunky build. It looks the part too with a black, white and orange front panel and signa...

Re: Yamaha CS-15 new end cheeks....oooh, sexy.

One other thought about wood.... It's not as though the wooden end cheeks were a purely Yank hallmark of the '70s and early '80s. Plenty of vintage American gear didn't have exposed wood sides: several Moogs (Micro, Poly, Sonic Six and Multi to name four), the Prophet VS and 2000, all Emulators, som...

Re: Yamaha CS-15 new end cheeks....oooh, sexy.

I think it's great that people have the option to customize their synths but personally I prefer to keep my synths in their original state as much as possible. I think part of what interests me in vintage synths is the fact that they tell a story about sound design, industrial design and manufactur...

Re: snobbish question / best PW

Voyetra 8. Why ? ...because of keyboard scaling of pulse width modulation amount. The ssm2044 filters certainly don't hurt either... I wish all synths had that feature, so you can have slower LFO or less modulation in lower registers. I know, that's such a great feaure. One doesn't need the "sea-si...

Cheers, Joey.

I have a very big, very long post to put up later this week regarding the CS-15. I've become quite taken with it and have a few observations to post. Plus I like to ramble.
