So did you get a D-50 yet? I've just picked up my third, I'm addicted to D-50s haha! Beautiful synths.

Re: analog poly synths with midi control

the implementation on the JX-3P is really not up to the task. Not sure about the 8P. Maybe an Xpander or Prophet VS? How does the pg-200 work? I assumed it was midi. Or is it some special protocol? I'm sure I've seen a clone of the pg-200 somewhere. 3P can't be controlled by a midi box WITHOUT eith...

Re: Roland's greatest synth?

I´ve always have wanted a JD 800. I know it was used a lot in Songs of Faith and Devotion, and around 15 years a go watched a documental with Martin Gore using it on a studio and explaining some stuff about it. It was really inspiring for me when I was starting to compose music. Any idea what this ...

Re: Korg Polysix arp sync 5V

Send a rimshot sample to the input from you daw/sequencer (start with low volume and inc till it triggers) - each pulse will advance the arp.

Re: If you had to

Apologies to those who take offence at people daring to reply to threads over a week old, but I find this one fascinating, not least of which reading through and what choices you made in 2009 vs what is in your gear list today! I guess it just shows you can only make judgements based on how yo...

Re: Jupiter 6 vs Jupiter 8 Envelopes

Understood. I still found it a hindrance on the JP8 considering I mostly used 3-4 simultaneous dual-mode notes on the same patch for upper and lower, and usually with enough amp release to notice the issue. The JP8 voice stealing can be set to linear increments if you power up holding down 1&3 patc...

Re: Roland's greatest synth?

Nothing like being fashionably late to the party :) Digital: D-50 ...[/b] I'm curious... why pick the D-50 over the V-Synth? don't get me wrong, the D-50 is one of my very favorite synths, but the V-Synth is a D-50, and a better version of it, plus it's also a V-Synth. anyway, my pick obviously goe...

Re: What's the deal with the Roland JD-800?

Ah. So it's basically a D-50 on steroids with a PG-1000 controller jury-rigged onto the back :) not quite, D-50 still has one or two more features in it's engine and the pure synth modes - obviously this synth's sounds are always based on PCM. This has a much better filter though, better than some ...

Re: What's the deal with the Roland JD-800?

I found a nice demo of 40 factory patches. Some really heavy sounds in there. Seems quite similar to my D-50 structure-wise, but with better filters. Each "voice" can have 4 "tones", each tone being a complete single oscillator synthesizer. Mix the 4 together and you can make almost anything. I won...

Re: What's the deal with the Roland JD-800?

Well I think I can safely say it's now my favourite synth (inc analogs) :) Seems my slagging off of this synth bagged me an absolute bargain price in almost mint condition unit. Am sorting the keys today - not a single epoxy drip yet but am not taking any chances. Everything bad I ever wrote about t...

Re: What's the deal with the Roland JD-800?

Also, the filter in the JD-800 is far nicer than the filter in the JX-8P I had! Digital v Analog eh? Sound wise I'd say the JD when pushing it into more analog synth areas reminds me of a cross between a thinner 8P, a 'weaker' polysix and a colder D-50. Has it's own thing going on of course!. ...

Re: What's the deal with the Roland JD-800?

wanted to update as I've had my JD a few weeks now - having previously spent time with one a couple of years ago, and in recent times dabbling with one that a friend of mine has (and constantly mentally comparing it to my D-50). I think when I got hold of the D-50 I found it somehow warmer, more soo...

Re: Studio Simplification

Am constantly refining my setup - finding my most used/useful synths are often the under the radar stuff (in my case SY77/JX-3P) rather than the 5 star super popular synths. I'd like to get down to just 2/3 synths eventually (hardware)
