Re: Roland JX-3P vs. Alpha Juno 1

My JX-3P is a keeper. YOu have to work harder than on junos to get the sweet spot but it's far more versatile and 'exciting' to me (in a mix). Juno sounds harder on it's own but JX sits great (3P). Edit > now i've become overrun with alpha junos (and MKS-50), I'd say get both. Good compliment to eac...

Re: What's your "must have" synth?

Having thought a bit more, and seeing some votes for it... the AN1X really is a cool/versatile synth in a compact space. I know as I deliberate over which synth to sell next that it's not going to be the AN1x (I use it too much and it can do lots of nice sounds), nor the SY77 (too many posibilities ...

Re: Can you tell what synth this is?

it does resemble an 8P in patch sound, but (and no you won't believe me) I wasn't fully convinced it was an 8P. It sounded like 8P-lite if you will. It was lacking some life and didn't quite have the depth of the 8P. Hard to quantify and unlikely anyone will believe me now anyway. (been playin...

That's right, no Floppy drive on the D-50.

Re: Ronson's "Bang Bang Bang" - JMJ homage?

sounds like someone trying too hard and missing the point. I don't feel any passion in this, just as other's have said, a bit of bandwagon jumping. There's some proper indie 'synth pop' that sounds more like the real deal and is done out of love of the era not just to sell records. I don't mind Mark...

Re: Korg Polysix vs. Roland Juno 106

if you are going to pay for battery swap (or repair) it may be worth waiting for a cheaper one. Though that's entirely at your risk (and sometimes they can be badly damaged and you'll want a new board). Both of my P6s (Currently have two) i got cheap due to a battery fault, luckily only 3 traces wer...

Re: Hooray for me! (Roland Juno 6)

Was my first vintage synth back in 1994 also. Cost me the equiv of £60, sold it for £100 a few years later. Could have got 3x that on ebay now.

Re: What's your "must have" synth?

If I knew the answer to this question, I could easily have sold half the synths in my signature (could do with the cash), but can't seem to seperate them. Each has it's place.. it's like choosing between your children. edit> apart from my 'custom rackmount SY85' (with sliders NOT a tg500) ...

Re: Experts: do you know which keyboard is this?

FWIW it took me an hour to make my JX-8P aftertouch work 'better than new'. It's a real simple fix (aside from sticking the rubber cover back on nicely) for anyone who's done any basic synth repair. I guess the only thing left is the midi controller, let me know what you guys think is best, if I sho...

Re: roland juno 6/60/106 alternatives

Polysix or JX-3P over any Juno. Neither sound the same as the juno, both have things in common with Juno (6/60) but are not exact. Polysix is closer in design (1 osc+sub, arpeg etc) but the filters aren't the same sound by any means, and it's VCO vs DCO if you care. JX-3P has similar filter sound (w...

yup - one of the top ten most underated synths of our time, it'll do a lot of things for the price if you can only have 1 synth and want synthetic electronic sounds.

Re: What kind of synth's did the Bee Gees use????

The synths on 'spirits having flown' album (1979) and 'Main Course' (1976) I always loved. As for Moog, I'm sure on a much less well received album (1973's 'life in a tin can') it mentions a Moog on the liner notes (as played by Maurice Gibb not Blue Weaver at that point). Also if I remember correct...
