Re: Was the Roland D50 the first VA Modelling Synth?

I think in this case the term 'VA' has nothing to do with: .the controls (obviously - it's very digital looking) .'trance/dance' VAs of the 90s (just because they marketed those as 'virtual analog' it was due to a number of factors inc hands on control COMBINED with modeling/dsp (rather than samples...

Re: AN1X or MS2000B ?

Another vote for AN1X here. Every time I go near it I write a new patch (so much for 'bad interface'). I don't really compare it to my analogs, it's different - it is it's own thing - great in mixes I've found (where super fat isn't always ideal). It can do 'dark' and mysterious drones, strings, noi...

Re: Korg MonoPoly

I'm obviously biased when I say 'Polysix' but there you have it. Mono/Poly would also be nice to have. Had a Juno 6 many years ago and grew tired of it in a way that I haven't with the Polysix.

Re: JX-3P (midi expansion mod) + JX-8P with BCR2000

Moved the room around again. Now I'm compelled to put the JX-8P on the higher tier. Not because of it's status (I still 'prefer' the 3P if I had to chose) but because the BCR fits on the 8P ok, just restricting the last few patch buttons (don't use really)... STILL overlarge, I'd love to trim my spa...

Re: Most affordable vintage synth

Non vintage but with all/most of those features = AN1x (better than the CS1x for sure). Both JX3p/8P are out as they are only 6 note poly for one thing, and 3P has neither velo or after... 8P has both (usually the aftertouch needs sorting). AN1x has both, 10 note poly, some knobs (more than the JXs ...

Great synth... I love my SY77 (with blue screen) so much I want a TG77 too (just cos I have a thing about going to more compact racks in the future while still staying with hardware)

Re: Yamaha SY-77 vs Roland D-50

Couldn't possibly choose. It would be like asking to chose between my 2 children (If I had any). As far as I'm concerned, with an SY77 and a D-50 I can/will sell all other digital synths and never buy another. Those 2 combined are an awesome package and they do things NO rompler can do. They also ha...

Re: SY-77 vs DX-7IIFD

If you wanted to be brutal you could buy a DX7 (which ever one you want) and an SY85, you get more effects than the SY99 and the same dodgy sampling facility ;D Seriously though my SY77 is very nice at what it does and the combination synthesis is very nice, but if I had the space I would definatel...

Re: One is not enough!

Don't have 2x any of my synths, but approaching the question from a different angle... if I was to own another of anything that I already own it would be the Polysix... And I'd like to own 2xprophet 5 and 2xJupiter 8 (one to use and one to put in a time capsule) :)

Re: Yamaha - enemies of synthsis!

SY77 in 'FM' (or AFM mode to be precise) sounds sublime. Before that I had lots of interesting sonic adventures with the DX7 II-D (through effects!) that my other synths couldn't begin to do.

The worst 3 from the big ones are the ones you paid over the odds for on ebay, then they arrived in pieces with no chance of a refund

Re: JX-3P (midi expansion mod) + JX-8P with BCR2000

Theoretically (if you wanted to) you could use each BCR preset "page" to store the exact settings of the knob values for a particular synth which is basically a patch. The reason this works is that the BCR remembers the values of the encoders when you save a preset. So, for instance, BCR P1 = MoPho...

Re: JX-3P (midi expansion mod) + JX-8P with BCR2000

First post to the forum, hey all. Guess this is where all the hardware synth geeks hang out? Glad to see the BCR being put to great uses here. Quick question: after tweaking and arriving at a good patch via the BCR, is there a way to permanently save that patch, other than as a preset within...
