Re: Success Story: PolySix MIDI Retrofit

I think we should worry more about the finished product (the song) than whether perfect timing or natural timing is the order of the day. Some songs, I never use midi and play the keys live as I record... other times, beat perfection is almost essential to the nature of the music and would sound qui...

Re: Success Story: PolySix MIDI Retrofit

Yes I'm probably doing the 2nd version - I didn't make that clear. Either version is good for me though because basic note on/off is all I'm after.

Re: cheap interesting synths

the ultimate cheap synth: a BROKEN Korg Polysix that isn't 'too damaged' and that you can work on yourself :) picked one up for less than £150 recently, one 50p IC swap and £2 battery mod later and it's a minter :) - the sounds coming out of it (through outboard effects) are heaven compared to my pr...

Re: SY-77 vs DX-7IIFD

Cool trivia Pro5! You need to tell that to the VSE front page review editor. Seriously, thanks for your help on the first page... :D Chas The admin/owner of the site who wrote those reviews is a law unto himself, correct synth names, going prices, and 'this synth is not as good as this other ...

Re: SY-77 vs DX-7IIFD

Well, I have borrowed an XP-30 from a friend and I love it. AND I have bought a SY-77 from the states... just waiting for it to arrive via snail-mail. Thanks for the help! Chas Congrats, but the pedant in me would like to point out there is no hyphen in 'SY77' officially ;) Roland were the hyphen l...

Re: Note stuck on Roland JX-3P

First thing to do is check the key contacts/rubbers make sure they are clean and not mistriggering. That's a simple check and best to rule it out before looking at possible IC/Component damage. take the rubber cups off that key completely (well the keys in that strip) and see if it still happens, cl...

Re: Success Story: PolySix MIDI Retrofit

I'm considering a DIY Polysix Midi Retrofit ala Spider RooM Labs P6Retro The toughest thing for me would be finding someone to burn the software onto the chip. Has anyone tried this version? I'm going to do the DIY one to my Polysix. Buy a PIC programmer kit and build it - will be useful for future...

Re: Korg Polysix no ADSR?

Yes well if you look at the schematics you will see that the lines from each switch/knob take a specific route around the synth and end up on the circuit board in question. Some functions use IC31, some IC30... and within each IC are 4 seperate gates... depending on which of your gates has gone (1,2...

Re: Korg Polysix no ADSR?

I picked one up not long ago. Usual battery leak so sold as 'not working' (i.e cheap :) ). Turned out I was quite lucky as it had only killed IC31 (A cheap logic chip that cost pence to replace) and only one dead trace that I jumpered. Now, glad to say it's working 100% (oh also had to clean the key...

Re: Custom LEDs retro fitted to old synths (power reqs?)

Thanks

The LEDS would have been for the POLYSIX (and I saw a mod for clear bend/mod wheels on the Polysix with a BLUE / RED led thing going on but can't remember where I saw it now nor if it had any guide on how to do it)

Re: Poly Synths

Hello all I own a couple of analogue mono synths but i really need some analogue polyphony. I have been looking and researching juno's for ages and i am pretty sure i would like to get hold of a Juno 60. The main reasons being the possibilities of hooking it up to midi via a converter. I over looke...

Re: What Vintage Synth Would You Like to See Back in Production?

I'd like a remake of the Korg Polysix, Jupiter 8 and the Emulator III. Yes to the first 2. I'd also add JX-3P , remade with hardware envelopes and on-board controls (no seperate programmer needed). Add in portamento and unison/legato/mono - expand the sequencer but keep it simple, add an arpegiator...

Re: Custom LEDs retro fitted to old synths (power reqs?)

Thanks guys. Well what I'd really like is the RGB LEDS (in a pack) not sure how small they can go/if they would fit (some would be on the fascia not just hidden away lighting things). And ideally I'd be able to use a pot to alter the color to suit.. orange, purple, whatever... this of course is mere...

Re: DX7 key replacement - any helpful info?

Oh is this a mk1? I'm not sure if they use an older system (normal springs) or the spring plates as in the Mk2. if you can see the whole of the key front to back with the top flipped up then it should be possible to remove it, HOWEVER there may be a clear plastic strip fitted underneath that prevent...
