Re: TG/SY77 High Contrast Blue Replacement LCD Module

Any reason why you'd rather use a PC drive? 99% of issues with the internal stock drive are related to an old belt. The belt is easy to source and is cheap. I need to get a new screen for my recently acquired SY99! :) EDIT: In fact, I just changed the belt in my "new" SY99 this afternoon after tryi...

Re: TG/SY77 High Contrast Blue Replacement LCD Module

Got a BLUE LCD Module on it's way as I write.. gotta source the other bit(s) but not in a rush as the LCD is ok at the moment. I'd like to use a PC drive in place of the dead one, I downloaded the 'pinout.doc' but as I only have wordpad it's kinda scrambled up a bit so can anyone post it or a more i...

Re: Fair trade for a JX-10?

From what I've seen you may get a swap for a Juno 60 but a Polysix tends to go for more (UK) than a JX10 (if the polysix is in top shape). It depends on the swapper of course, to some a JX is far more useful than a juno 60 while to others the Juno60/Polysix are very much more desirable. Removing fad...

Re: A Synth nerds existential crisis.

Don't like the microkorg, don't like some aspects of the DWs even though I'd pick one up if I found it cheap (to test it out). So sounding like a broken record I'd say get a ROLAND JX (if you want to stay 80s) or a Yamaha AN1x. These synths are nice to have around. If you want an ARP then definitely...

Re: SY77 backlight what is it?

Hope to replace mine (OK at the moment but not as bright as it should be) with a straight blue unit. US sources I can find but if anyone knows a UK source for the same price let me know. Dismantling/soldering is no problem.

Re: DX7s Fractional scaling - true genius

I love FM... I really hope to get Massey's book sometime and REALLY start to learn what it's about... I find it fascinating and have 3 yamaha machines with FM in somewhere now so need to roll my sleeves up and get stuck in ;)

Re: Yamaha are not really making any synths anymore

Much like the music industry, I guess a lot of hardware makers are trying to get their heads around the all conquering PC/Internet/software solutions. Hardware will always be desirable to some (me). Yes thankfully the 2nd hand market is a godsend to us AND for the most part, synthesizers being what ...

Re: favorite instrument combinations

Continuing the trend:

JX-3P + DX7 II-D - Classic combo for metal/bassy/rhythmic/non-pad sounds :)

JX-8P + D-50 - Pad/Strings Heaven

AN1X + JX-3P - Good for Pads AND some sorta Bass :)

Re: repair success stories

Roland JX-3P: Desoldered broken 'edit slider' (no stalk/cap) soldered in new slider works great. Swapped a key on it (cracked) to a good one. Fitted midi expansion mod to it so I can now use generic midi box (no PG200 needed!), software editor, patch back up and sequencer + programmer at same time. ...

Re: juno 60 vs jx3p vs polysix.

Now I have a BCR for my JX-3P it's easily as fun as my Juno 6 was to play around with (if not moreso as it's more interesting sonically with more options). I like the Juno 6/60 but JX-3P has this 'feel' and sound that is all it's own and you have to tweak around with it to hit gold but it sounds so ...

Re: FM8. Better than DX7?? Save me some money...

I Use FM8 quite a bit and really like it. I don't see it as competing with my DX7 II as such, as when I program/play/use the hardware DX7 I tend to do different things and it is very nice to play (in solo/mono mode esp). I wouldn't pay $300 for a beat up mk1 though... no way. And part of the reason ...

Re: Poll: your musical influence for interest in synthesizers

I voted non EDM.. .though some of it has from time to time got me thinking about synths again (The Shamen? The Prodigy?) For me, primarily my love of synths comes from the late 70s and early 80s. ELO, Jarre, Duran Duran etc... And I've always made NON EDM music with the synths (and other instruments...

Re: Are virtual analogs just soft synths with their own...

My AN1x cost less than a NEW MIDI CONTROLLER KEYBOARD and a LEGIT VST SOFT SYNTH. And also offers many advantages and inspirational pros over just software... So I don't get the hate even if they are 'just software' internally
