Re: Alesis Ion FET or pot?
Hi, sorry I dont know of an alternative part.
You can try spraying the pot with deoxit fader lube but if you want to be sure , you should remove the pot from the pcb and test it with a multimeter . Warning : pots could be tricky to remove , just like the Fets.

Re: Alesis Ion FET or pot?
How difficult is it to get to the FETs and remove them from the board? Both Fets have one pin connected to large copper trace, so you will need at least a 40W soldering iron in order to remove them. It is not difficult, but it is not as easy as removing a common through hole component. I have repla...

Re: worth fixing nord rack 1
AFAIK, early nords use linear power supplies which are easily repairable.
you better take it to a tech, if the problem is in the PSU, it should not cost more than $50 to fix.

Re: worth fixing nord rack 1
The mainboard needs to get +12v / -12V / 5V from the power supply in order to operate correctly. Obviously you need to plug it to mains power and power it up so that you can measure voltage with a multimeter. But since you have never done this again, you better take it to an experienced tech, playin...

Re: SQ-80 help
Dear Bill, I cant be of much help, but here is sth that comes to my mind. I have noticed that many ribbon connectors on ensoniq products do not have the strain relief part and as a result ribbon cables get damaged by disconnecting/connecting them. Usually the problem is poor connection and not broke...

Re: Throubleshooting Ensoniq's poly pressure keyboard
Well , the poly pressure keyboard must be one of Ensoniq’s best kept secrets. I have managed to track down the service manual, and what do you know… there are no schematics! To make things worst, there is not any information about calibrating the keyboard circuit, just a “replace keyboard” solution....

Re: Throubleshooting Ensoniq's poly pressure keyboard
thanks for your input Jabberwalky ;) The ribbon connecting the 2 boards was my first thought, but unfortunately it seems that the later ensoniqs do not suffer from this problem. Anyways, I have hardwired it but the problem persists , keyboard calibration fails. I think that the solution is fine adju...

Re: Throubleshooting Ensoniq's poly pressure keyboard
ok here is the update , I could not resist myself turning these trimmers, so I did and voila, all keys produce sound again! As I guessed the trimmers set the trigger sensitivity of every keyboard zone, I adjusted it by ear and sound is back but unfortunately the keyboard still fails to calibrate. Ob...
