That Hollywood Reverb - What Is It?
For years now I've wanted to know exactly what reverb effect it is I keep hearing in Hollywood film scores. By this I mean there is a very specific style of reverb that is clearly used on countless films. It is a very smooth and deep and warm hall type but more specifically it appears to have a ster...

Brian Eno: An Ending - Celestial Choir Source?
A friend of mine asked me the other day exactly what synths were used in Brian Eno's 1983 track "An Ending". At first I was all smug and sure I would know the answer but after several listenings I gave up. The layered choral sustains are amazing but I'm struggling to decide what exactly was used (an...

Re: What was the worst synthesizer you've ever owned?
It is absolutely tragic that what was once of the finest names in sampling has finally become this - just a hollow shell of what it used to be. The rot set in after Creative took over E-mu - they were clearly only interested in their technology for sounds cards - and frankly it shows... everything ...

Re: What was the worst synthesizer you've ever owned?
EMU Halo sucks a big time. Imagine a command station with half the polyphony, 12 knobs missing, and no sequencer with a bunch of cheap plastic cheesy sounds. And the case is half plastic half metalic, so the plastic cannot support overusage, and the heavy metal parts, so it breaks down And it's ass...

Re: What was the worst synthesizer you've ever owned?
It really put me off Yamaha keyboards until the SY-85, which is a great do-everything workstation. Really good for sketching and songwriting and as a master keyboard, which is what I use one for now. SY85 has the most interesting keybed. Most effortless aftertouch. I really miss mine A lot of old Y...

Re: Prophet 5 HELP!
Hi, This past February I was given a Prophet 5 rev 3.3 s/n 4992 and an E-mu Emulator s/n 00081 that were part of the support band for Liberace. My boss asked me to help him throw them in the dumpster at my work or that I could have them since I do electrical and electronic work on industrial machin...

Re: E-mu EMAX II or Akai S900/1000?
I've owned S900, S950 and EMAX II samplers for many years as well as countless other samplers so hopefully this is worth something.... My advice is forget the S900 - it has too little memory and compared with the S950 is curiously lacking in sub bass response - they simply destroy bass kicks, and no...
