Re: MIDIMOOG osc problem

Hi sam. That's a damn nice synth. It is incumbent upon you to post pics of your setup! :) Yes please... and if you do open it up, any chance of posting a piccy of it's innards in my synth guts pictures thread?? http://www.vintagesynth.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=47328&start=45&hilit=synth+guts Yo...

Re: What was the worst synthesizer you've ever owned?

Alesis S4 and QS7 -Most horrific keyboard touch ever existed in history of synths. A yamaha PSS toy is more playable. -Overrated pianos -Unusable strings sounds ! Akai SG01K -Cheesy GM Module ...quite unlike the little Waldorf Blofeld I recently got which is so entertaining for the money - it's eve...

Re: 80017a repair (not replace, repair)

It works in about 60 percent of chips, but sometimes only for a period. It is certainly worth trying if your synth is not "mission critical", ie: you aren't using it on stage. To make the repair complete you need to address the jump track problem and the metal migration problem and a couple of othe...

Re: Rarest Synths

That's the most handsome and sexy synth I've ever seen. Such an elegant and futuristic design. I would sell my a*s to get one. the desktop wavetable is a good option if you can't get one,... Actually I know someone who has a Wave and he insists it's one of the most disappointing synths he's ever ow...

A Cheap Way Of Sourcing Emulator II Keys

After doing some reseach it appears that the keys in the mighty E-mu Emulator II are not as unique as I thought. They are shared with the Korg DS-8 and the AKAI AX73 in weighted form BUT also the Kawai KI in unweighted form. The only difference is the weight itself which can be easily removed from y...

Re: Soldering on boards

The best weapon for this kind of problem is a Metcal Iron and some DIL "tunnel" desoldering bits. These irons use RF as a heating medium and are amazingly good at getting vast amounts of heat into a joint - even when a huge desoldering bit is fitted. http://www.metcal.com/products/mx5010 OK I've pu...

Re: EII Owners: Reliability issues - The Horrible Truth

OMG... so many chips! so what connection cleaner do you recommend? something like de-oxit? I have a non-working OB-1, and I see at least one corroded socket base that most likely needs to be replaced (or just cleaned). Would be nice if I could at least do that before the tech sees it. Yes - de-oxit...

Re: Soldering on boards

While we're on the topic I have to rant about the SCI Multitrak. It has double-sided PCBs which previous owners were bastards and installed multiple DIP sockets. Two of them are 40-pins, arghhhh. Double-sided PCBs are defeated by the use of DIP sockets since it is impossible to solder the top conta...

Re: EII Owners: Reliability issues - The Horrible Truth

Interesting stuff Dan, would be worthwhile posting on the EII forums too if you get chance. I also had to resurrect mine from the dead last year and I now keep my fingers crossed it keeps working fine.... :? The Mac was the last thing to die on me....cost three times as much as what I paid for it t...

Re: discrete polysynths

totally agree with you hideaway! i love the emulator 2, i would do anything to get my hands on one, anything. The EII is indeed a lovely beast but it's also a handful. It's twice as deep as some synths, it weighs over 40 pounds and it's probably just as well I'm an engineer as otherwise mine would ...
