Re: Any ideas what (90s) synth this sound is from?
Hmm, well It's a pretty standard sound. You could probably achieve something very similar with an virus or JP-8000, saw wave, with a nice bit of reverb with a long tail, the main characteristic of the sound is that it has the lowpass filter down about half way and the attack is set to fade in/modula...

Re: Can an electronics engineer do the work of a synth tech?
I've been wondering about this too, my local synth tech is getting out of the biz, and to be honest he's not that great anyhow. To answer your question though, from an electronic circuitry point of view, I don't see why not. Only thing to note is things like, the fact that they wouldn't know the tri...

Re: Korg MS-20 - no oscillator sound?
Hey Stab, Yeah you might be right about the CV, it'd be easier to test if there was keyboard tracking on the filter, probably possible to do something like that to test with the patchbay, but then I'm new to the MS and the patchbay is quite daunting to say the least, especially when it may have prob...

Re: Korg MS-20 - no oscillator sound?
My only other guess at this point is that it has something to do with the keyboard interface circuitry. Yes, well I was kinda thinking that but then why would OSC2 not work at all? Anyway, thanks to everyone that's tried to help, I'll now be getting it ready to go to Steve Jones' workshop, if he ha...

Re: Korg MS-20 - no oscillator sound?
Dirty contacts on the internal normaling switches of the patchbay VCO CV points. Hmm, well I've done all I can at this point, I don't even really know exactly how the MS is supposed to work 'cause I've never used another and it was like this when I got it. Time to send it to a pro, if you give the ...

Re: Korg MS-20 - no oscillator sound?
Ok guys, Just did a few tests with the MS-20. So I put a signal into the external input to test out the filters etc, and it worked perfectly as I thought it would. I then plugged it into the VCO 1&2 CV input and if you remember I said that normally Oscillator 1 only sounded on the noise waveform, bu...

Re: Korg MS-20 - no oscillator sound?
First check the multi cables inside ..or bad solder joints. I guess you tried a audio input through the filter...? Well, I cleaned every connector with Deoxit beforehand so it's not that, could be solder but I did a quick inspection and all looked ok. Haven't tried audio in but the filters are defi...

Korg MS-20 - no oscillator sound?
Hi again everyone, Just got a problem with my MS-20 and was wondering if anyone has had the same problem or could know what is wrong here. Ok so basically, everything works fine apart from both of the oscillator's. So, all of the other functions appear to be fine, volume, hi-pass / lo-pass filters a...

Re: MS20 Making weird noise when triggered externally :(
I don't really know exactly what this could be but one thing to check is the internal molex connectors. They connect different sections of the circuit board by multiple cables. Sometimes the metal pins that connect them can become tarnished and not make proper contact, a spray of deoxit should be th...

Re: Korg Poly-800 doesn't power on?
Hey thanks so much rhino! I actually was heading towards that conclusion myself, I mean I checked and know for a fact that the power was getting to the circuit boards' power inputs and the switch and power plug was all fine. So I think you're dead right, it's got to be that diode. I'll let you know ...

Re: Korg Poly-800 doesn't power on?
I assume you have checked that the power supply is delivering juice? Tried batteries in it yet? Yeah, like I say I have checked the obvious - connected a test power supply to the unit both from the DC plug in and on the battery terminals and still nothing. I also checked the continuity of the power...

Korg Poly-800 doesn't power on?
Hi guys, Just got a non-functional non-powering Korg Poly-800 Mk1 and did a bit of research and this is apparently quite common. The symptoms are that it is completely dead, plug the power in, turn it on and nothing. I'm guessing it's a dead component not making continuity, but I've thoroughly inspe...
