Re: Moog discontinues Voyager RME/releases Rober Rich EP

There is one common denominator in your list, they are all rack units. Perhaps this is an indicator rackmount versions aren't money makers, and keyboard versions are. ;) I think that's true, people want instruments, and a rack (although it kinda is) just doesn't feel like one. Shame really, I think...

Re: Buying under-priced vintage synths

There is absolutely nothign wrong with buying the gear for his asking price. There is also nothing wrong with trying to talk him down. It's not sociopathic, or dishonest, or even rude. It's just economics. He will be happy to get rid of the junk and you'll be happy to find the deal of a lifetime. E...

Re: When intrinsic value is surpassed by emotion... (EMS Gea

Outside of this I think my point regarding new components needs clarification - this is not about SMT vs PTH - its about vintage spec parts vs contemporary. There is a world apart from a first or second gen 741 and the latest low noise, low power, rail to rail equivalent regardless of how the silic...

Re: Supporting rack synths/gear?

So I did order the support angles from Hallam that I mentioned earlier, they arrived the other day - super solid thick steel angles which is good. Going to try mounting a pair today and see how I go :)

Re: Supporting rack synths/gear?

^ You need to sack your roadie if the rack is going upside down! I think it'd be fine without bouncing too much, remember the front mounts will keep it solid and the side ones are a bit of extra security to stop it putting too much strain on the front - shouldn't bounce with two points of cont...

I am definitely not saying "nothing is built properly nowadays" I don't know why you made that up and made an insult of snobbery to boot. I'm saying we can't expect surface mount technology to perform as we are used to through hole, so even though they are termed "re-issues" and everyone without ele...

Re: Buying under-priced vintage synths

Oh give me a break, there is such a thing as a good old fashioned bargain. Again, it is up to the bloody seller to determine the price, not the buyer. If you pay what he asks where is the problem here? Did you steal anything or rob the man? NO. There is nothing wrong with making a profit, if you th...

Re: Buying under-priced vintage synths

+1, remember it's up to the seller to ask what *they* want, not the buyer to tell them. Do you go into a family run supermarket and offer to pay full price on the specials? No. Anyway, in my experience with vintage gear "apparently working" is always "got a few issues", so you wouldn't feel so chari...

Re: When intrinsic value is surpassed by emotion... (EMS Gea

^ Yeah but that's still a matter of affordability, the originals are still better. At this point I should say that I think the basic sound (and that's usually the priority) can come pretty close, and close enough indeed for most folks.

Re: Cheap As Chips

Best deal for which I did part with some cash: EMS VCS 3 Mk2 + Random Voltage Generator + Pitch to Voltage Converter = ... let's just say less than $400 AUD :) Oh come on man, really? When was this? Hope you still have it :) It was pre-internet, 1989 or 1990, so still a time when old analogue was r...

Re: When intrinsic value is surpassed by emotion... (EMS Gea

Yeah that's not really the issue, I think we all agree that it's great to have classics remade again and available to people that can't afford the originals BUT, we're still saying that if you do have the choice, (and you value certain things) get the original version. It's like any purchase, you wa...

Re: When intrinsic value is surpassed by emotion... (EMS Gea

Yep 110% agreed on that, ahh well I guess as long as people don't expect to be able to fix them when they go wrong it's ok. But somehow I doubt a lot of people buying new synths even remotely realise this. Oh God, don't remind me... I'm absolutely for safety and everything but if anyone here has eve...

Re: When intrinsic value is surpassed by emotion... (EMS Gea

...EMS gear looks simple to re make not worth the money they go for only a matter of time before China copies flood the market . I hate to say it but maybe that would be for the better, it worked for boutique guitar pedals (more or less) ;) It would never happen... well ok it might and it might eve...
