Re: Aesthetics of synths: effective marketing tool ?
Sure making purchases based on looks might sound superficial, but I don't think keeping good feng shui in the studio is such a bad thing. For example I sure as h**l wouldn't want a Waldorf XTk next to a Nord Lead. They might make a good pair practically but looks wise it'd just piss me off all the t...

Re: Modulus 002 --- new synth from UK
Looks cool, but sounds pretty bland. Yeah I'd have to agree, beautiful machine no doubt, but sonically doesn't quite do it for my money. :? It's amazing how people judge a product by a few patches on an online video. Sounds powerful to me, and with a nifty output for each voice individually... I'm ...

Re: Ridiculous eBay 'Buy-it-now' and starting bids.
I try not to throw rarer gear in this section, but c'mon. Think the last one of these to come up went for under half of this? 271530616329 Last LM-1 i've seen was on evilbay UK about 4 months ago and went for 4400GBP wich is +-7500USD. That's just stupid. I almost bought one that needed fixing once...

Re: Synths that didn't impress you
Very nice, I got that pad sound from the third example sampled in my Blofeld as a OSC :-D The last track is great, I can hear the M1 doing the melodic bit but what are the other parts from? It's very reminiscent to ealy FSOL and the kind of stuff played on Sasha's & Digweed's Northern Exposure Vol1...

Re: Connection between circuit bending and granular synthesi
Very different things. Granular synthesis is basically short samples of audio sliced and diced, rearranged and manipulated. Circuit bending is changing the circuits of a synth to do something wildly different, generally experimental rather than by the book electronics theory. So yeah, if you have a ...

Re: Dust on synths: how do you deal with it ?
Yep, all good advice - I keep my synths covered with towels (probably not the best but it avoids the static issues of synthetic materials and provides some protection from small bumps).
Also use a paint brush to get dust out of the sliders/knobs.

Re: Am I ruining my synths by letting them get too hot?
So to make that clear, is that all old gear, or just the analogs? I have digital drum machines and rack synths. All gear can be affected, but if I were to recommend you remove anything I'd say start with the old analogs - looking at your gear list I'd prioritise the sixtrak and the Juno - if you wa...

Re: Am I ruining my synths by letting them get too hot?
What you guys may or may not realise is that Capacitors are rated to tolerate specific maximum temperatures. This can be anywhere from 10ºc to 200ºc Sure most likely your room is within this tolerance, but it can be a crapshoot, some synths particularly older ones, if they were cutting costs they w...
