Re: Akai MINIAK
The release of the MicronSE brings to mind a variety of questions. The first being that what does Alesis/Akai/Numark have to gain by releasing two synthesizers with the same specs under different names? And more importantly, what does this say about the relationship between Alesis and Akai? Do they...

Re: Novachord #346 Inspection & Initial Wakeup
It is interesting that it was an issue in the 1940s with bands and later synthesis was opposed by session players. Hmmm.... I think I have more issues with my warranty ;) I wonder if Hammond were scared enough by someone official approaching them just before product launch to place this statement o...

Re: I just grabbed a FIZMO!!!
I have a VFX, had it since '99. I used to use it for noodling around and creating sound effects on... The Fizmo is the last great synth of the line that started with the VFX... alot of its sounds are "so that is what a VFX would sound like if the filters were resonant"

Re: External HDDs for recording
Lacie's are horrible drive. and truth is USB2.0 and Firewire are the same speed. Actually USB2.0 is a hair faster than firewire. BUT... . There's always a but... BUT... to get that 480 mbps peak speed, USB2 is going to be eating into your CPU, whereas firewire doesn't do so as much. The more you ha...

Re: Tips for making original and creative music with synths
Traditional orchestral instruments and piano still implement it because music for those instruments is music that people want to recreate and perform for themselves. Electronic musicians are usually composers who want to make their own music, produce it, and record it, and therefore lack the need t...

Re: Novachord #346 Inspection & Initial Wakeup
This is great stuff Dan. Top class work! Do you have any references to Bob Moog researching the Novachord while developing his own instruments? I have references for that, but unfortunately all of my books are currently packed! It'll be three months, but after that, I'll dig it out. I also have a c...

Re: Need to run some CPUs into the ground...
I'm trying it within a DAW, namely REAPER. The idea is to make a test that can be run on a system using shareware/freeware/demo components, and build it up to a 24- track or so 'song' (a little short to be called that). Kinda like DAWbench, without the "keep adding reverbs until it breaks" test qual...

Re: DCO obsession - what next?
Doesn't the Alpha Juno/MKS 50 have 3 DCOs with analog VCA/VCF?

Re: Need to run some CPUs into the ground...
Arturia demos require a synchrosoft dongle, which means that the test i'm building up will only be able to be performed by people with hardware keys...

Re: Novachord #346 Inspection & Initial Wakeup

Need to run some CPUs into the ground...
So contrary to what I'd normally do, at this point I'm looking for free VSTs that sound good or ok, and eat your CPU for breakfast. I really need to be able to run modern CPUs into the ground. Any suggestions?

Re: Akai MINIAK
Seriously though way dose everybody have their sand in their jockeys about this and micron being the same synth engine . I don't think anyone's upset about it, it's just for the sake of getting the facts straight. And if you were to buy one you know what you'd be getting. Plus in the UK at least yo...

Re: Akai MINIAK
I'd love and even consider the MiniAK if they had doubled the polyphony as well. Of course if they want to 'modernize' it, they shoulda put USB on the back and shipped it with a editor/librarian...
