I think this is a lean time for synth development in general, not just Yamaha. Any instrument Yamaha is coming out with now has been in development for *years*. the budget may have thinned over the past twelve months, but any synth they were making would have been 50% made before the economy tanked...

Some of the ones that 'don't need drivers' include drivers anyway and there's a bit less latency if you use the drivers.
