Re: Custom emu roms? 6400ultra
I got my e6400 Ultra for $175 locally off craigslist... from the original owner. Her original sales receipt (and the receipt for the RAM) were still in the manuals. Its still running OS 4.1! Gotta get some floppies... Yes, you can make a flash ROM, if you can find a blank one. As far as i understand...

Re: Yamaha are not really making any synths anymore
I think this is a lean time for synth development in general, not just Yamaha. Any instrument Yamaha is coming out with now has been in development for *years*. the budget may have thinned over the past twelve months, but any synth they were making would have been 50% made before the economy tanked...

Re: Alesis USB-MIDI Cable Connects MIDI To Computers
Some of the ones that 'don't need drivers' include drivers anyway and there's a bit less latency if you use the drivers.

Re: Alesis USB-MIDI Cable Connects MIDI To Computers
Yes, its another USB MIDI cable... just like the ones from Yamaha and Roland and Emu and M-Audio and Turtle Beach and Hosa and brand X Chinese manufacturer... If they wanted to make it more useful, they could have put a ADC on it and a set of 1/4 inch leads. "Doesn't need any drivers" means it uses ...

Re: Are virtual analogs just soft synths with their own...
Well, a DSP or two, a microcontroller (CPU, imbedded app cpu usually from ARM or what used to be Motorola), memory, DACs... see my earlier link to the guts of a Virus TI keyboard.

Ok.. well if someone wants an Emu sampler and not have to fight for it on Ebay, you might wanna see if he'll ship him.

Best part: $175 off craigslist...
There was another guy on L.A. craigslist with two e5000s and two e6400s for sale, but i don't think they were ultras and didn't come with extras like CDs and manuals...

Okey i got a new (to me ) sampler...
I just picked up an Emu e6400 ultra, 128 MB, with a SCSI CD-rom, internal IDE drive and the stack of CDs that came with it... and I'm going out of town for the 4th and can't really mess with it. Got it from the original owner, her receipts for the sampler, memory and hard drive were still in the man...

Re: Yamaha are not really making any synths anymore
Well, there's another factor: I had forgotten, and just got reminded, that Yamaha owns 51% of Korg. So it kind of looks like they are content to leave the synth market to the Korg guys at this point. Owned- past tense. According to several sources, Korg re-acquired a controlling share of their stoc...

Re: Korg R3 v xiosynth
We have an R3, and I find its engine very capable and easily programmable- as long as you're not trying to program it on the R3 itself. The computer editor for the R3 gives you a patch librarian and much more immediate access to editing all the features of the synth instead of menu diving, then you ...
