Re: iPad vs Android tablets

Why the fixation on VSTs though? 1) Because I already have a stack of vst synths that I really like 2) because I'm making my own VST synts, such as this Curious. An iPad can be a decent sketchpad to jot down musical ideas on, exporting them later to the studio PC -- but do you really want it to be ...

Re: Getting an iPad4, 32G wifi - set me up!

Yes I'm at the same stage in life as you too - I can totally relate! And the iPad will be put to similar use, I imagine :D Picture it - the house is finally quiet, an ice-cold glass of beer sits on the coffee table, the sofa all to yourself.. My iPad has turned into a games device primarily. And I'...

Re: Getting an iPad4, 32G wifi - set me up!

What? No love for NanoStudio? I love NanoStudio and it's probably one of the only all-in-one studio apps that I really liked. It was (and I think still is) fairly inexpensive for all it has to offer. Great 'studio' app for sure. Hear, hear! I have NanoStudio on an iPad 4. I also have a USB adapter ...

Re: Listening to mix on multiple sources

It's a good catchall, and worthwhile exercise to do at least once. But pointless unless you have a reference sound system that's fairly neutral, or at least one whose quirks you're well acquainted with.

Re: Tears for Fares (Nanostudio)

Thanks for the compliments, guys!

MT - yes, that is a bitcrusher effect. It's a bit brute-force, but you can tone it down by routeing and mixing it via one of the aux buses in Nanostudio.

Re: Track using only nanostudio...

Not bad, not bad at all. Nanostudio was one of my main reasons for buying the iPad, after using it on the iPhone. Still love it. How are you finding the synth? A lot of the patches aren't fantastic, but I've found them a good starting point. Plenty of fun to be had poking around the LFOs, too. Cheers

Tears for Fares (Nanostudio)

Hi all, Taking an iPad on holiday is a definite bonus. A house full of in-laws, a hyperactive child (mine), but give me a couple of hours of noodling on Nanostudio in the evening, and I'm happy. I call this Tears for Fares : http://www.clubbedtodeath.net/download.php?tearsforfares.mp3 Hope you enjoy...

Unless your sequences only play in realtime, you can multitrack.
But then, some of us can play more than one note at a time.

Re: Some thoughts on the Arp Odyssey

Well f**k. I'm really starting to like it. I've just been jonesing for a Virus TI for years and I can't afford to have both. Hi Alex, Reminds me of when I bought a Korg MS-20. At first I was thinking "My first proper vintage analogue! Woo!", and then as I set down to work and explore the synth, I w...

Thanks Dan - I do enjoy a nice demo now and again. The MiniMoog sounds absolutely bloody gorgeous.

Re: Closest DCO synth to Jupiter 8 in a tone perspective

Not having a JP8000 to compare it to, the only way I can dispute this is what I've found the JP8 to excel at: natural-sounding and pleasant timbre, especially orchestral type sounds, to be something the first generation VA, indeed most VA, seem to have difficulty with. Agreed, especially with the w...
