Re: Need help choosing a synth
the juno 106 and dx7 sounds like a pretty sweet combo for chicago house. check out the tr-707, it has the jack'n-the-house cowbell! all you need now is a cheap sampler and some disco vinyls

Re: New vs. Old
First, it looks very cluttered, to the point where it would be unpleasant and difficult to program and access all its parameters. the exact opposite is true. the knobs are cleary and logically layed out in such a way that you have easy access to perameters that are fun to tweak wile actually playin...

Re: What laptop should I buy for soft synths?
I got a Mac book Pro 13" and I love it! Once you go Mac you never go back. i thought we were trying to avoid mac vs. pc? people need to use more samplers and harware sequencers. you'll have more fun and live longer. and it's not like you're music will sound worse, especually considering the ...

Re: drum machines w/ individual outs
i usually record through the individual outs, or in the case of my 606, record separate tracks, although the 606 does sound nice as a mono track. different feels i'd say. something else i've done is grouped and panned several instruments of similar frequencies and recorded them together. at the very...

Re: New vs. Old
actually, the radias has a pretty sweet drum section. i used it in the 'one synth' competition. and it's 4 part multitimbral so you can use the drum machine behind the patch you're designing quite easily! i was actually half joking, but you can make some great ambient sounds with drum sounds and lon...

Re: What laptop should I buy for soft synths?
i went with a rain livebook studio just to try it out. so far i'm happy with it, although if you buy from rain they're stupidy expensive :? also, it's good having a laptop if you need more room for synths! otherwise, value for money wise you can't beat the tower + monitor thing. did you check out ne...

Re: Roland Connect - Countdown!
Has anyone stopped for a moment to think that from the perspective of someone who knows nothing at all about Roland's previous synths, Jupiter 80 is a much better name than U-80 or any of the other names that people have suggested in this thread? FFS, it's just a name. i would love to agree with yo...

Re: A New Synthesizer
this is totally spam, but i just put my virus ti up for sale :D. she's a beaut' but i don't use her. house/goa at least can make pretty good use of a sampler however. ;) in fact, a lot of early house tracks are little more then a sampler and maybe a drum machine. that being said, i used the korg rad...

a personal experience with the same drum machines and midi cables: i bought 2 sets of midi cables new, one black with plastic ends (hosa i think), and the other with metal ends that are george's music brand. nothing with sync can use the george's music cables: I have to use the hosa. i did buy a 3pa...

Re: New vs. Old
the sh-101 and a sampler is magnificent for early ambient house-style music. check out alien mutation vs. indigo egg, the infinity project's mystical experiences, stuff on hypnotic records, etc. all of those blips and alien noises and low throbbing tones are largely manipulations of self oscilation....
