Re: How to NOT be overcompressed
i like this thread, and the rob acid video. just from my own experience, i never realized how pooly produced the old metal cd's i love sounded untill i started mixing my own songs. not because i got really good at mixing, but because before i was listening to the music way too loud and my ears fatig...

Re: Added value of a real Korg MS-20 over the software emula
The OP got their information so it's now fine to let this tangent entertain the rest of us. :banghead: :D So now the whole genre/category is hinging on the use of real analogue synths? what genre, and why? unless you're considering the totality of electronic music a genre...and even then "instrumen...

Re: Added value of a real Korg MS-20 over the software emula
sort of a semi response to ag, but not really adressing anything in particular aside from some general philosophical ideas; there is as much aesthetic value in "not taking shortcuts"(for lack of a better phrase) as there is for being innovative, which is true for all art. in addition to that, the to...

Re: Trance Music
kick sounds processed, but the main things going on in this song that are missing from your setup are the 909 and 303 sounds, which are common features of groove boxes. i'd recomend the mc-303, but the jx-305 sounds like it would fit the bill as well. have you thought about just straight up buying a...

Re: Hardware patches for PC recording?
Is there any way to import those patches to where I can access them for MIDI recording? not sure i get what you mean, but - with something like the radias, you can import patches to the patch editor and save them on your computer, but the patches will only work on the radias, or possibly some other ...

Re: Sampler for keyboard sounds
on the s5000 you can adjust the velocity sensitivity, and i think turn it off completely, though i havn't paid enough attention to that feature to give a completely certain answer(on the off completely part). at the very least you should be able to match the known velocity of the keyboard with a vel...

Re: The Joys of Hardware Sequencers (Story/Rant/Endorsement)
When started using Ableton Live, I never used another sequencer again. i want to like ableton live a lot more than i should, and a lot more than i actually like it. i love using my msq-100, although mainly for syncing, but i've run into a problem with the note capacity when using it in conjunction ...

Re: Tools for synthesizer repair
I think I need to change my user name. My iron isn't temp controlled, I don't have a scope or a freq counter, I can't f**k stand desoldering wicks, and I never heat the substrate first, I use flux paste applied with a dental tool. Yet all my work looks fine, and I've only damaged two trace pads, th...

Re: Advice on directions to take in synthesis
Anyway, good idea? Bad idea? if you like the sound, good idea. if i were you i would get a cheap but powerful sampler, and then a midi interface. that way you can cut out a huge ammount of cpu related headaches by using the computer as a midi sequencer to sequence the audio on the sampler. instead ...

Re: Akai s5000 - dance music
I used an S5000 for quite a few years in the 90's. A couple of years ago I started transferring my Akai samples and multis to Kontakt. At first I couldn't understand why they sounded so much brighter. I finally did some spectrum frequency measurements and determined that the high frequency response...
