Re: so Juno 60's are about £1000 now? what the h**l?!

Synths can be like food in some ways. Sometimes you have a taste for things, and that can extend into preferences. If I have a taste for cake, there's nothing like a really good piece of cake. I don't want some cheap cupcakes from the supermarket with diabetes inducing icing, I want a good quality p...

Re: USB CF card readers: an alternative to stacks of CF card

It's an idea, although it might be costly. I've also thought about the Linux DD copy command to create an archive, but I was hoping for more simplicity. I might juse get some more cards, at least in the meantime

We do have the listening lounge. Isn't this basically what it's for?

Re: Your lifelong equipment list

Newer technology tends to offer increased power, which helps one accomplish more, and with greater clarity. Greater texture isusually more appealing than greater clarity, but it's harder to understand the importance of texture at first, even in the world of visual art. Beginners often paint with too...

The Juno 60 also doesn't suffer from the voice chip issue the 106 does. So something is definitely different. IFRC the 60 also has the same filter as the Jupiter 8?

Re: so Juno 60's are about £1000 now? what the h**l?!

Messing with the calibration on junos CA in do a lot of surprising things. Crank up the resonance trimmer for very nice overdrive. But factory spec cal 60 and 106 will sound the same, see above. I definitely suspect something like this is going on with my Juno. It's just... nicer! I thought maybe s...

USB CF card readers: an alternative to stacks of CF cards?

I'm starting to run out of space on the CF card I'm using with my Akais, and my Emus. Instead of getting a few more cards, I'm seeing these USB CF card readers for very little money, so I'm wondering: Is it possible to just pick up a USB CF card reader and then use it to move the samples I'm not wor...

Re: so Juno 60's are about £1000 now? what the h**l?!

I'm ready to sell my 106... It's... Not THAT great. A lot of people say that about the 106. Not so many say that about their Juno-60s. When I bought my second-hand Juno 60 back in 1985 (my first synth), I could have got a 106 but I wanted an arpeggiator and - I can hear you all laughing - I thought...

Re: Ensoniq ASR-X

Scsi cf card readers are more expensive, but very much worth the investment. Sometimes those old zip disks are unreliable, and you don't get that much space. Zip drives frequently accompany old samplers for free as part of the sale on ebay, which can sometimes be a good way to kill 2 birds with one ...

Re: New guy midi questions/sequencer recommendation

Don't be afraid to go old, or 'multi function box' when it comes to getting a sequencer. I'm not sure you have to break the bank to get top quality functionality, as older machines are still under the vintage radar, and somewhat unknown / overlooked. This, however, might need to be amended: "TR-08 i...
