Re: When did arpeggiators start showing up?

I think the kraftwerk centric viewpoint just comes from how well critically received kraftwerk were. They didn't even really attain the typical "super robotic" sound until it had been pioneered and perfected almost everywhere else. It's like do you forget that wendy carlos used a vocoder "A clockwor...

Re: Name That Synth Sound

Madness is pretty simple, some detuned saw oscillators, a low pass filter and a tiny bit of attack on the filter Envelope. The other song sounds like the opposite, High resonance LPF but with the sustain set low and the decay doing all of the work (possibly small bit of attack) on the filter EG. Tha...

Re: Deadmau5 buys a Fairlight CMI

 its just funny when they low pass in the drums and all you hear is - WHUUUUP - WHUUUUP still better to find a 909 snare with a 200hz tone rather than boosting something thats not there.... I found out the other day that 600ml coke bottles pretty much make a 200hz doong tone when you give ...

Re: When did arpeggiators start showing up?

I think the widespread use of synthesizer for more robotic type music was only really codified in the 80's with the popularity of sequencers. Most of the example of synth heavy albums from the 70's that I really like strike me as being rather the opposite. Aside from that german band that will not b...

Re: Linux-based softsynths

Renoise as a whole could count. Draw a waveform in the sample and you have envelopes, LFO's and all manners of filters availible. The sampler is basically a fully fledged synth.

Re: Waldorf Rocket?

Considering the tune knob seems to entirely be there to create some sort of supersaw effect I'd hazard a guess at saying the oscillator is probably digital. I mean...it IS waldorf yeah?

I doubt it will have 8 filters.

The VCO just has a strange splitty detuner thing like the minibrute I guess.

Re: Arrival (The 70's called..)

Coolies. Not a fan of that Meesha VST, seems to be sample based and low fidelity samples at that. High end is a mess. I remember I had a whole bunch of old 70's drum machine samples somewhere I'll see if I can drag them up for you. Main criticisms. Should spend some time mixing I guess, the drums in...

Thankyou again mate for the heads up, i think i have made my mind up and am gonna go with a Microkorg XL, it sounds mint, what you rek? You will likely find it's programming panel stifling and it's small of stature keys frustrating. I think you're better off with a second hand first generation VA. ...

Re: Alesis QS6

I'd recommend something like an AN1X or a virus A/B/C first really. The best thing you can do though, is to go get a trial version of reaper, download a copy of synth1 and start reading through these. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/allsynthsecrets.htm You need to know what it is you want out of a s...
