Re: The Appearance of Synths
Looks are important in any piece of technology because we are visual creatures. Having said that, I would never not buy a good synth just because it was ugly but if there were competing synths that were similar enough, like, say a blofeld and a Mopho desktop I would be more drawn to the Mopho. It's ...

Re: New Korg Analogs?
The answer to the question posted is an emphatic "yes". I know for a fact that there is a possibility that Korg may come out with a line of real analog synths with keyboards. I am completely certain that it absolutely definitely surely is distinctly possible that Korg could conceivably release somet...

RMI Rock-Si-Chord
Someone I know has an old RMI Rock-Si-Chord (aka Rocksichord) that he bought new back in the day. I found some info online about it but I can't find any that are currently for sale or even any that have been sold in the past. Has anyone here ever bought or sold one? Any idea what they're going for t...

Re: Don't sell your f**k gear!
He loves that dw8000 because of the joystick. I can thank Tallow for selling me that machine! Does he prefer its FILTER or OSCILLATOR? Definitely the filter...he tells me when he pulls it down - "daddy off" - and when he lets it back up "daddy here," so my guess is he can actually hear the di...

Re: Duran Duran Ordinary World - Answer from Nick Rhodes
Was any of this DD correspondence via a certain friendly Katy Krassner by any chance? :) I beleive that would be the lady. She used to do an "ask Katy" on their old website (you know the free one with forum full of nasty crazy out of control people?). Mrs. Cumulus got to know her a bit and they hav...

Re: Don't sell your f**k gear!
Three thigns I have been thinking of selling: Alesis QS 7.1 - I don't use it very often but it's my only ROMpler and I'm afraid I will miss the piano sounds if I sell it. Roland TR-808 - Belive it or not, I hardly ever use it. I actually like the 606 better., Yamaha CS-50 - Sam with this one. I rare...

Re: Duran Duran Ordinary World - Answer from Nick Rhodes
It can be really effective to layer a bunch of stuff sometimes. It's also interesting when someone else has a go at an instrument you have had for a long time and thinks of something new to do with it. I wish the question to him had been more detailed and I think he was just listing the synths used ...

Re: Saving Patches Via Pics
BTW, I find the idea of using high-tech to augment lower-tech in this way fascinating. Kind of like when my wife spends hours playing solitaire on the computer when she could just use a deck of cards....

Re: Saving Patches Via Pics
I, too remember the days of filling in patch sheets. I still do it for the Mini Moog. Snapping a digital pic would be pretty quick and easy.
You could also save drum patterns from your old drum machines that way.

Pretty much, From me to Mrs. Cumulus to their PR person/fan liaison to Nick. From him, to her, to Mrs. Cumulus and back to me.
Not much of a direct line but at least we know what synths were used.

Just put "drum machine" into Ebay and you'll find all sorts of 'em. Some of them will be dirt-cheap.

Duran Duran Ordinary World - Answer from Nick Rhodes
Someone posted a question about the synth sound on Ordinary World so I had my wife fire off and email to someon she knows. Here is Nick's answer: "I used several different synths, roland jupiter 8, kurzweil k2000, some samples of real strings and voices, and believe there is a little prophet 5. Hope...
