What would you like to see in a Korg DDD-1 how-to video?

My Korg DDD-1 sound card demo video had gotten about 2,400 views on YouTube and now there are some people emailing me with "How do I..." -type questions on the thing. There don;t seem to be any videos on YouTube that go into any depth about the functinos on this instrumetn. I am gonig to post some H...

Re: A guitarists perspective on old vs new synths :)

It's always interesting to me when people try to impose rules on Rock music (or any other kind of music, for that matter). If nobody ever broke the rules of what constitutes music, or a genre of music we'd all still be smacking rocks with sticks and grunting. Rock music is about rebellion among othe...

Re: A guitarists perspective on old vs new synths :)

The "no professionals use solid state for distortion" statement is like the guy who commented on the YouTube video saying that the TR-606's lack of individual outs "keeps it out of the profesisonal arena". No matter what any of our opinions might be about any particular gear or type of gear, I am ce...

Re: One is not enough!

I have two Korg DDD-1 drum machines. I got the second one for the elusive sampling card. Ah, isn't that the really fun looking one with the pads and such for actually drumming on the unit? It's hard for me to keep all that straight.... I know Korg, and even damn Mattel or something made an old unit...

Re: A guitarists perspective on old vs new synths :)

There's another thing to think about which makes the debate about old vs. new guitars different than vintage vs. analog.... As a good guitar ages the wood changes and usually sounds better as the years go by. Most vintage synths change, too, but not for the better. As electric and eletronic componen...

Re: synthetic voice ?

There is one called s**t Talker which is lots of fun. I used it in a song (Angels + Dung) to recite Bible verses in a sing-songy type of voice.

There are a variey of voices on this one.

Re: Name that "synth"

It definitely looks like a Yamaha Portasound but that's not the important question here. The important question is who is having sex with whom in this band. My money is on the guitar player and the keyboardist. The drummer is probably having an affair with one of them but I am not sure which. Whiche...

Re: Playing some material live for the first time

Just an update (becasue it's all about me...) The show went really well last night. It was in danger of being rained outsince it was an outdoor thing but the nice bartender at London Bridge Pub next door said we coudl set up in there. It was basically a noise show and I was the only act actually pla...

Re: Playing some material live for the first time

I am still considering adding a second person, even if it is just as a "helper". I asked the guy I am recording the Starbuck's record with but he wasn't sure he could be ready in a coup-le of days. He is the type who likes to rehearse a piece over and over. I think he lacks the self confidence to ju...

Re: Playing some material live for the first time

I have been having a h**l of a time getting ready for his thing. I had to come up with some new patterns for the Electribe (translating/recreating stuff that had been recorded on different gear into Electribe patterns) and I have lost some of the original Electribe patterns that I used for some of m...

Re: Playing some material live for the first time

I normally don't get stage fright and I have played some pretty large venues. Most of that experience was with accoustic instruments, though. Almost all of my live playing experience with electronic instruments has been with other people doing material that was only loosely organized. My stuff is a ...

Playing some material live for the first time

When I started recording solo material I had no intention of ever playing it live but I am now booked for my thrid live show as Cumulus. For the first two live shows I just played theremin and ran some taped sound effects and old nasty answering machine messages form a crazy ex-girlfirend or two. I ...

Re: pain in the a*s synths (frustration)

I made a noob mistake when I got my Yamaha CS-50 about 20 years ago.

I couldn't get the VCA section to make any sounds on its own. It would only affect the sounds from the other sections of the thing. I assumed that it was broken but at least the VCF and all the other stuff worked...

Re: Advice About The Yamaha CS-50

When you test it out, press one of the presets - preferably a simple sound like the electric piano or flute- and play the same note several times in a row. Listen for any variations in the note. If there is a problem with one of the voice cards every fourth note will be lower in pitch than the other...
