Re: What is the purpose of "Recapping" a synth??
Been looking at an old Solina because the sustain isn't working. Otherwise it plays just fine. Just tested the 10k sustain slider and it's still good. Anyway, it's full of the old tropical fish capacitors. Most of those still look good, but a few have vertical fractures at the ends (but not split) ...

Found a SCSI cable and Zip drive at a secondhand store called Computer Reset here in Dallas for $50 total. That guy has everything old-school computer stuff.

Returning to to the esi-32!
I have returned to the esi-32, maxed-out fully loaded with v.2.10 32-megs ram, AND SCSI for ONLY A MERE $100! This is MY deal of the century from Guitar Center! Had to tell somebody. This was my FIRST and FOREMOST sampler from '94, baby! Been scoping this piece, in the same store, for several YEARS ...

Re: Has anyone tried tilting back the USS-Apache type stands?
Crazy, man. Obvious question, but are the chair armrests adjustable so they can be dropped? Anyways.... Obvious things: make sure the stand won't overturn backward. You can test that when the stand is empty. Also, make sure the blocking cannot be crushed and support the weight of those synthesizers....

Re: electric guitar
I can promise you that the DI'd guitar will not sound good - especially with a bow; you need an amp. Are we talking about studio, or live use, or both? I'm also thinking about a guitar right now for studio. Guitar effects have been my gateway to this. My buddy was showing me his NI Guitar Rig. He h...

3rd of the Month sounds like it needs something, but good concept/theme working there. I like Where is Now. What gear/software are you using?....All FL? Whip out that MC505 and RTFM!...you'll be glad you did. Peaches' uses one so it can't be all wrong - WOot! And list your influences?

Re: What was the worst synthesizer you ever owned?
I'm thinking about that wet fart can going to a distortion pedal and a Roland Space Echo. Then increase the delay intensity into a feedback loop. Then modulate the delay time for pitch shifting effects. Alright then.... Runner-up. Talk about a programming interface with deep-deep menu-diving: the Wa...

I tried one once. For the reasons already stated, it's a boat anchor. Got rid of it just to get it out of the way.

I was lusty for a 909 until I came across D16 Drumazon. For 808 fans Nepheton is going to be your huckleberry.

Re: Any thoughts on the Gmedia Virtual String Machine?
Alright. I've got my only complaint about VSM with regard to the ARP Solina. The samples are incomplete!...whilst the trumpet and horn samples aren't strictly string sounds, they should be there! When you get the Violin+Viola+Horn+Trumpet sounds all going at once it is still a stringy ensemble sound...
