Re: Stereo Direct Boxes
Here's another question: Currently I'm running unbalanced 1/4" cables from synths to interface. Shortly I'm going to introduce a 1/4" balanced patchbay into the equation. Should I switch all cables to TRS, or just the ones from interface to patchbay, or keep everything TS? You'd think I'd know this ...

Re: Stereo Direct Boxes
You're right madtheory, of course. The Saffire Pro 40 is setup with 1/4"/XLR combo jacks: Inputs 1+2 have three impedance options: Mic/Line/Instrument. Mic Gain: +10db to +55db Line Gain -10db to +36db Instrument Gain +10db to +55db Inputs 3-8 are just Mic or Line. My old interface was a Profire 262...

Re: Stereo Direct Boxes
Damnit, I had a feeling that would be the response.
If I plug direct into my interface (1/4") it bypasses the preamps. I want more gaaaaiiin!

Stereo Direct Boxes
Hey guys, I need another pair of stereo or 4 mono DI's (passive). I have always used either the Radial ProD2's or Pro DI's. Buuuuuut I'm spoiled, and now kinda tryin to sorta be aware of budget. These boxes will not be touring and will rarely get moved, if at all. Source devices are just synths and ...

Re: Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine
Yeah, I think I remember putting that on the last MPC1000 I had. Oh and Pflosi, don't be mad, but I got a blue one!
Apparently its in mint condition, no issues with pads. But worst case scenario, I can upgrade them!

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500
Alright, for now, the MPC1000 wins. Just scored one in mint condition for under 4 bills!
It'll cover all my midi sequencing and drum machine needs. I'm still keeping an eye out for a decently priced MMT-8 to add to the mix later!

Re: Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine
The MS-1, SU10 and SU200 are limited to stereo outs only, which I'm afraid just isn't going to cut it. I'd like a minimum of 4 outputs - even if its a set of stereo outs + 2 assignable ones (like the MPC1000).
Thanks for the suggestions though!

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500
The transposing thing isnt really a deal breaker.
I also just realized that the HR-16 with a slew of aftermarket eproms might satisfy my drum machine lust. Instead of an MPC. So maybe MMT and HR16 would be cool....

Re: Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine
Yep, it was, Ninja....here's what I was reading: 'Regarding the sound, the Octatrack sounds a huge amount better than the MPC to my ears; more bottom end, focused mids and clear tops. The MPC sounds like mush in comparison, so if you like the sound of the MPC you might need to get to work with the l...

Re: Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine
Pflosi, why not the Blue MPC1000's? Isn't the only issue pads? Which can be replaced easily for like $40? Or are there other concerns?

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500
If only use an MPC1000 in this setup (no MMT) will I still be able to transpose sequences? Triggered from the MPC or Polysix?

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500
In my experience, an mmt-8 is not as quick to use as an mpc (I have a 1000). Setting up the tracks and having to stop to quantize them bummed me out. Interesting. I just have a few videos to go by when I make my sweeping generalizations, so its nice to hear that maybe I'm wrong! In my situation the...
