Re: Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine

Oh yeah, that's right, I forgot it was in addition to the stereo outs. That might be enough then. I generally keep my drum stuff fairly simple voice wise, anyways. Not to mention I'm running out of inputs on my interface!

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500

You can easily combine it in some way, then. Use the MMT to send midi into the MPC where you record it, or figure out something like that. That way you can also easily sequence transpositions on the fly and so on, two parallel midi sequencers feeding each other can be very powerful. I think I'd go ...

Arturia Spark 2

I got this when I bought V Collection 4 around xmas. Just started messing with it a bit yesterday. I gotta say, WOW. The vintage drum machine samples are some of the best I've heard. Even better than the Goldbaby Tape series stuff. The sequencer is clean and easy to use and you can automate just abo...

Re: Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine

Chewy - I was just messin with the DJ-in-a-box comment. All of those machines look pretty sweet and probably better described as soup-to-nuts electronic music production workstations. Or something like that! Anyways, I good paying attention to the word Playback. I am indeed just needing playback cap...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

Sweet, yeah I just ordered the first two albums (Affenstunde and In Den Garten Pharaos) on vinyl from Discogs!

I didn't end watching Aguirre, because I couldn't find an English version!

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500

Oh, the MMT would certainly be redundant. The MPC can do all that stuff. Buuuuut the workflow is a bit cumbersome from what I can tell. The MMT seems super quick in comparison. MPC in this case would be setup just for drum duties. It doesn't need to be an MPC. It just seemed like the generic 'load-m...

Re: Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine

Interesting, hadn't ever looked at those! Not bad options. I wish the ES-1 had multiple outputs like the ESX.

What else?

Super Basic Hardware Sample Playback Machine

All I want is: - The ability to load my own drum machine samples. - A set of pads. - Standard midi in/out connections. - Multiple outs; at least 4. - The ability to play/record basic sequences (beats). - Standalone piece of hardware. I don't need any of the fancy performance jazz that the million do...

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500

Ohhhh Mr. Miagi is a wise man.... Me thinks an MPC sampler loaded with my favorite drum machine samples might be the safest bet. So - MMT8 = the master sequencer sending sequence info to all three synths (input'd by Polysix) and midi clock to MPC. If the MMT8 doesn't get along with me for some reaso...

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500

If going hardware - how do you think the analog clock out on the MMT-8 would be driving the DX, as opposed to midi driving the 707?

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500

So the urges for a drum machine have come up again. I prefer sample based machines, and have used a Linndrum and 707 extensively. Unfortunately I sold those long ago and have nothing at the moment. I do have Arturia's Spark 2 software which has pretty great sounding samples of just about every drum ...

Re: The great thread of electronic/synthesizer soundtracks

I didn't see it mentioned, but one of my favorite films 'Aguirre, the Wrath of God' has a sound track by Florian Fricke/Popol Vuh: http://youtu.be/4_nFmx__VxM http://youtu.be/zdeIN3sYcfk I've no idea what gear was used. Woooooow. Never heard of Popol Vuh. This stuff is amazing. Gonna watch the movi...

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500

Yeah, I flirted with putting a preorder in for a Cirklon when they were making the first run, but could stomach the $2000 (or whatever it was) for a sequencer at the time... I think I'm going to start with the MMT because they're just so damn cheap. And it seems even more brain dead than the MPC. Ju...

Re: Alesis MMT-8 vs MPC500

I probably won't be multitracking sequences. It'll be one live pass with all three synths running sequences. It won't have to be a master stereo track, it'll be three separate audio tracks from my interface to DAW. If I want to add more passages on top, I'll play them by hand straight into the DAW. ...
