Re: Windows 7?
My opinion as a consumer and user is far more important than my professional opinion. I've used both OSes (Mac OS X & various Windows) and never had more problems than I did with windows. The last stable windows version was probably XP SP 2. Vista is a mess, which is why Microsoft themselves even si...

Re: Prophet Style Knobs on Mono Evolver. Worth it?
Ryan- there's no need to open it up to put new knobs on; just pull the old ones off and push the new ones on.

Re: Prophet Style Knobs on Mono Evolver. Worth it?
Looks good. I'm definitely going to be getting these due to the fact that they are easier to twist, however, I do feel that the silver looks leas than attractive. It would look much better with all black like the Pro~One. If it had more wood like like the Prophet Five, it would go a lot better in my...

Re: Windows 7?
The 64bit thing depends on the DAW. Windows 7 can run both 32bit and 63bit DAW's, and a 64bit DAW can't run 32bit VST's and vice versa. If you've got a mix of 64bit and 32bit plugins, you'll need both a 64bit and 32bit DAW to use them all. A good example of this causing problems is actually with In...

Re: Prophet Style Knobs on Mono Evolver. Worth it?
Are they very much like the original prophet knobs? This is my first modern synthesizer, and I have never tried any of the models you mentioned.

Prophet Style Knobs on Mono Evolver. Worth it?
Just ordered an MEK, anyone have experience adding the prophet knobs? Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there is a PE kit =\ However, the knobs that come with it look small and uninviting. $69 too much for the knobs? Also, is the software editor worth buying if I'm accustomed to the simple days of...

Re: Synthesizer Store Directory
C'mon guys, let's get this started! ;) Okay, instead of weeding all those out, list any store you think is worth a trip, even if it's only occasional, we could add a number to call first. This is why I provided the "What makes this store special?" column. But, I don't want to put GC or other chains ...

Synthesizer Store Directory
I think that it would great to have a list of all known stores that sell synthesizers like the repair shop lost. I'd be willing to make a spreadsheet of them all organized by city if you would like to contribute. I'm thinking that all the shops listed should be either privately owned, synthesizer sp...

Re: Tools for synthesizer repair
Those types of repairs don't all sound so simple. Soldering a battery in isn't as simple as it might seem. And fixing a stuck wheel with solder?? I could understand if it wasn't functioning when moved, but if it's physically stuck, sounds more like something is bent or lodged against. Just my though...

Re: Prophet '08 Output...Annoying Tone
I've had this issue with my Crumar BitOne too actually. Completely different era, but likely the same. It goes away with the reduction of sustain setting, but that also changes the patch sound. If you can get a diagnosis, please share as it might be relevant to me as well. It may just be something l...

Re: The Appearance of Synths
A synthesizer can be beautiful and sound ugly and also the other way around. I haven't understood some these topics lately, they're all so deep and thought out.
Prophet 5 with Synthwood's Blonde Maple finish is pretty much amazing by the way.

Re: What makes a synth famous?
Well, it's kind of tricky. We want people to suss out answers by searching the forums, yet nobody enjoys necromancy. It's one thing when good threads get resurrected and another when all the damned 'software vs hardware threads' get raised. I think it'll all get sorted soon enough. And, no, similar...

Re: What synth makes the best police siren?
There's this really awesome patch I made on the Pro~One that sounds just like an office building's fire alarm. It'd be cool to sync to a strobe light.
