Re: Hardware sequencer resolution
Yes, the EMX is limited to 1/32 I think, based on the steps. But I meant in general, is it futile to expect any other sequencer to be able to adjust individual note timing beyond 1/16 or 1/32? I looked up the RM1X offset feature last night, but it seems like it's limited to 1/16 offset, so I guess t...

Hardware sequencer resolution
Great rant thread over in off-topic just reminded me about a question I had about sequencers and resolution (MIDI or otherwise). Has there already been a thread on this? I don't see it in search... I've been having some doubts about my EMX1... and I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions about whet...

Re: hi again. has everyone gone a little soft
I'm relatively new here, but just wanted to say I'm 100% hardware and 0% software.

Re: Can someone explain how a VCO generates a signal
Here's my own VCO design, slightly influenced by René Schmitz's 4069 . http://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd408/rdaedalus/_schematic.jpg The device in the very top left of the diagram.... Is that supposed to be a 22k-ohm lamp, or a pot? I wouldn't really know, but compared to the construction diag...

Re: stone age methods today
ranting back to this, I live in the center of the whole wierd scene (and used to attend the label's weekly party). There are quite a few very talented people on the label (martial cantarel/xeno and oaklander, automelodi and eppe du bois come to mind immediately), but for the most part its just badl...

Re: Can someone explain how a VCO generates a signal
To understand in greater depth you really need to dive into electronics theory. Learn about DC, AC, voltage, current, resistance, capacitance and inductance. Between that comment and all of Rhino's and Jinsai's great explanations, we've probably reached the limit of how a VCO can be explained in a ...

Re: Search for the dream synth...
Hm... I think you may have missed by point. :) I'm saying that an upgradeable system is an added product offering, not a replacement for either full sized keyboards, nor mini keys. Besides, the MicroKorg wasn't released to be a side by side "live performance" version of the MS2000 (at least I don't ...

Re: Search for the dream synth...
Cool. I guess Roland has thought of this before? I've never tried a JX-8P, but maybe it's possible for someone to design a third-party dedicated external programmer for the Micron that communicates via the MIDI/USB jack? Hmm... very interesting!

Re: Questions for paraphonic strings synth experts
There is nothing like the sound of an old string machine. I used to own 2 or 3 stringers - an Elka Rhapsody 610, Yamaha SS-30 and a Crumar Performer. These were always heavy beasts made of wood, metal and fake veneer. But they had that sound you could just not produce with anything else. However, m...

Re: Search for the dream synth...
Yeah, generic isn't as good. I have an Axiom and not really into the controls that it comes with. It can only work for minor tweaks, such as in a live performance or something. But no good for general composing at home. Korg sort of tried to make the Radias and M3 mounting compatible so you could mo...

Re: Search for the dream synth...
This is making me wonder, since interface shortcomings are a recurring issue, that maybe synth manufacturers should consider designing VAs to be upgradable... in the sense that you can buy a Micron or MicroKorg with a few knobs and then eventually hotswap a new interface with 30 knobs down the road....

Re: Questions for paraphonic strings synth experts
Cool thanks. About the nuances: like you said, there's not much difference actually since it basically sounds like any other poly, but I just wasn't sure. Between the RS-09 and the Poly-800, I just needed dumb confirmation that there wasn't some other odd paraphonic issue that I didn't know about. I...
