most adapters arent rated exactly what they say they are. they may be a few volts off. it probably wouldnt ruin it to power up with at least a decently close adapter. I wouldnt use it like it that all the time though. i bet the microkorg uses a reverse polarity blocking circuit and its just not lett...

There's a good chance it's just dust that's built up over the years heating up. It could be worth your while opening up the synth (make sure it's been unplugged and turned off for a good 24 hours before you open it) and giving it a spray with can of compressed air. I finally got around to trying this synth yesterday. this is one of the best free vst ive used. it is very easy to make new sounds with. sounds good in poly mode too
