Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth

Seems like there's no easy way to make a cheap VCO polysynth. Otherwise, some companies would probably have done it. I don't know; that's what people were saying about VCO monos until now. In any case it's not just the parts it's the R&D and assessment whether there's enough of a market to support ...

Ah yeah, lots of guys were waiting for a Tetra keyboard with lots of knobs but DSI said it would just be almost as expensive as the P08 so they wouldn't bother.

Re: Arturia MiniBrute - analog monosynth

The MOPHO doesn't have realtime control and has DCOs instead of VCO's. 4 notes of polyphony with dual VCO's would mean 8 VCO's and 4 multimode filters, rather than 1 osc + 1 filter. I don't think that price will be mutiplied by 2 but rather by 3 or 4 IMHO . And from that price, I'd would prefer to ...

Re: A synth that sounds thin, cold and harsh?

Agreed that almost any digi synth will let you get thin, cold and harsh--esp a recent one with various filters, waveforms, mod routings, etc The ones I've liked most for that have been the Blofeld and the V-synth.

Re: ever use only one synth for a full song? (Solvent)

Kinda sad to see the guy has never really made it , but I suppose it's due to lack of playing out. I saw him in Cleveland 4-5 years ago which was ok, but maybe just didn't translate well. His music isn't exactly "exciting", it's more laid back, and good for listening to while working on artwork etc...

Re: sw threatening hw value?

I was just snooping around a bit in the synth explorer at VSE, the Yamaha corner. It was quite amusing to read all these remarks from desperate geeks defending the (in this case) TX802 against FM7 and software in general - but mostly just against FM7. I almost decided to put this essay right there,...

Re: Thoughts on the Alpha Juno?

Had one for a while, sold it on not that long ago. I quite liked it's sound, but found it far too polite to really fit into my music. Used the money to buy a JX 3P which fits the bill much better for me. If I didn't already have an 8P I'd have probably kept it for the pads alone. How do the Alpha a...

Re: Preloaded Perfect Presets

The DSI products I've had (Tetra, Evolver and now PEK) have all had impressive presets. That's partly because they are nice units, partly because they throw in something for everyone, and partly because they just have a LOT of them so you're bound to find something you like. But most importantly, th...

Re: Akai AX-60 vs. Juno 60

Yeah, it has some features that the P600 doesn't have. But I'd rather have the second oscillator. And being thinner or smaller isn't always a bad thing but I can get almost any synth to sound smaller; it's harder to get a smaller one to sound bigger. I'm not saying it's a bad synth. It's just not th...
