Re: What defines a digital or analogue circuit?
Can you guys please link to something that agrees with you? Listening to some guy rant on a forum is not a valid authority. Simply saying "this is the way it is" does not qualify as a legitimate source of truth. So far, i have supported everything ive said with real life examples. A circuit is analo...

Re: Juno-106 problem
Yeah don't poke around yourself, then the tech can actually blame you and want nothing to do with it. However, he COULD be really nice guy and work together with you. Not all techs act that way, trust me. ^trust him, I would. :) the solder "burn spots" are likely from the desoldering wick. should c...

Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
firstly, my bad on the z3000. I thought it fed a frequency counter that then fed the information back around to the pitch input. it doesn't. it's just a vco with a frequency counter on the back that feeds an led. I don't see the point now that I know that, but what do I know.....? I wish someone of ...

Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
yeah I had wrote that about the juno waveshaping, filters, etc but didn't want to stray too far OT so deleted it :) All dco's make a pulse wave this way. A clock sends a number of pulses to a counter which triggers a flip/flop that sends the output. That's what I linked to in all of those articles. ...

Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
so tell all the juno owners they've been had because they're no better than a poly800 http://www.electricdruid.net/index.php?page=info.junodcos http://www.intersil.com/content/dam/Intersil/documents/fn29/fn2970.pdf the entire premise of a square wave is 0s and 1s, highs and lows, ons and offs. A tra...

Re: what type of synthesizer do you suggest?
-i can spend up to $600 or $700 -i mainly want to play synth pop/new wave songs from the 80's (mainly Depeche Mode , Duran Duran , Alphaville songs) the first thing that came to my mind was the jp8000. Lots of knobs and has that late 80s sound. for what you're asking, some Kurzweil pc361's were on ...

Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
It would appear from the datasheet for the voice ic's that it is CMOS logic tone generators. Therefore, just as "analog" as anything else out there. Also, the Tone generators have direct output. If it were a digital output, it would need D/A converters. the waveforms are made from pulse's stacked on...

Re: Goodbye DSI Mono Evolver
I think the poly 800 sold for less then a thousand dollars? $800 MSRP. Of course, it's only partly analog. Sequential MAX was also about $800 MSRP. It's only partly analog? I don't understand...... They're dco's passing through an (only one) analog filter. the crumar bit series was just under $1k w...

Re: JX-8P vs Juno 106
I recently repaired a Matrix 1000 and I have to say I am very impressed with this little beast in conjunction with a PC editor. I prefer it to my Super JX! It doesn't share the discrete oscillator structure of the Matrix 6 but is really flexible and capable of making some huge sounds (ie. perfect f...

Re: Choosing a modular system...
Fwiw, paired transistors in an integrated circuit are no different than transistors as single packages. The only difference would be in how they respond to temperature changes. Edit: the difference of course that transistors were most likely hand matched or at least matched in a significantly less a...

all of the moog ladder filters should be the same AFAIK. That's what they bank their money on - that that filter is never going to get old.

In the interests of this as a thought exercise this is what I'd look at as a small, self-contained system: http://i46.tinypic.com/2chnx9w.jpg now we're on to what I think is valuable about this thread :) firstly, the "you know i'm right" thing was taken as a subtle ribbing and a yet subtler point t...
