Re: Choosing a modular system...

Sustain and Release as functions are generally part of playing something intended to be played with a keyboard. When you use a modular, you're generally looking for more complex envelopes. so as such, it makes more sense to either use A/R or A/D style envelopes. As a for instance, to get a more comp...

Re: complete newby looking to buy some gear

P.S. samurai pizza cats... best show EVER FINALLY ! (someone gets it....) :D the previously recommended juno 106 is a good bet for hands on learning. the minibrute would accomplish that as well. the evolver is a lot easier once you "get" it, but still tends to cause more of a ruckus than not. best ...

Re: Choosing a modular system...

yes, we've had this conversation before, and yes, the sum of its parts is $1700. But this system doesn't strike me as well thought out, doesn't seem to be nearly as flexible as it could be, and intimidates newbies from entering into that realm of gear because of the price. It seems to me to miss on ...

what don't you like about them particularly? sound? programming? I would think that a solid 90% of this forum would be pretty content with a d50 and an evolver....

Re: Choosing a modular system...

Since it got brought up in another thread about modulars, they've added a 2 month delay to the release, but the Pittsburgh Modular Foundation looks nice. Would give a nice start to modular and then you could just buy an extra case and start adding modules there. for $1700 as a single voice, it's te...

Re: Waldorf Blofeld vs. Shruthli-1

another difference (AFAIK) is that the shruthi-1 is only monophonic and the blofeld is poly. the blofeld is a lot more flexible from the digital side, but the shruthi-1 just sounds dern good. If you're using it primarily as a monosynth, I'd stay with the shruthi. If you're going to use it for pads a...

Re: high end headphone extension cables

Oh and don, i know you know what youre talking about, it was meant as a generalization :) Edit 2: and really reading stabbys post I realize I basically restated the facts, so sorry for that. And yes, the difference between "the speed of light" and "nearly the speed of light" isnt worth debating as b...

I can't tell, but is it possible it sold for the offer? That's how it shows up when the seller accepts a lower offer....

$500 + ship is very good. Between 6 and 7 is more standard.

Re: high end headphone extension cables

the movement of electrons in an electric field is nearly the speed of light "nearly the speed of light" does not equal "the speed of light" Electrons have mass; accelerating anything with mass to that speed would require exceptional amounts of energy to accomplish this. Furthermore, different media...

Re: Choosing a modular system...

this is a strange thread.... :) (but I like it) the format of a modular synth describes 3 main factors: 1) the size of its front panel 2) the supply voltages used by the power supply 3) the type of jacks used for patching. the most common format right now is eurorack. it's small, modules can be had ...

Re: tiptop stackcables

Anyone use these before? I think I remember reading somewhere that they were prone to signal degradation, but even if they allow a single signal split they might be worth the cost . . . I don't think that it's because of signal degradation - but rather because it's still a passive multiple. Passive...

Re: Vermona PerFOURmer mkii

I wouldn't buy it thinking it's flexible enough to be a poly synth. It's probably loads more stable, but my mono/poly was practically useless as a polysynth. If it were me, i'd buy it for the sake of it being one bad 4 osc monosynth and disregard it for its poly uses. I'm not sure if you can use it ...
