Re: Korg MS-20 Kit
Korg could be testing the water with this and the Littlebits; injecting a bit of the DIY approach lost from early days of synthesizers and seeing if it sells among people like myself who like to fiddle around with stuff whilst saving a bit of money.

Re: Talk me out of getting a Polysix
Cheap sounding filter my hairy arse :grumbles: Downsides according to me: Limited functionality. Crappy keybed with dead keys popping up when it's too cold/warm. The BBD chips used in the effects section add a lot of noise to the signal Korg tried to remedy this by adding a post effects amplitude-co...

Re: Korg MS-20 Kit
Heh, when I glanced over the article I missed the fact it was a full size version. I thought they had released a unassembled Ms-20mini for 2.5x the price!

Sorry I didn't respond before now - have had stuff to deal with.
Don't get too worked up over it. Everyone pulls traces now and again. I know I have. Accidents happen. As rhino said, try to find a local tech to relay it with a new chip, if you haven't already of course.

Re: MS20 vs. Mono/Poly
Interesting replies. I've been drawn to a monopoly for while because the idea of 4 independent oscillators seems really appealing. Back in the summer I even saw a few for sale for (just about) under £1000; that's a lot less than what an original MS-20 and Pro-1 would cost over here. Still, the launc...

Re: dw-8000 keyboard
Yes it is quite clackety but it is semi-weighted and has some tactile responsiveness. Compared to the keybeds in older Korg synths it was a significant improvement. If the one you try is anything like mine you'll have to really press down to get the aftertouch to trigger. I thought about cleaning th...

Re: yamaha CS-10 stuck LFO!
hey doc, just to double check, do you mean the capacitor labelled 0.68/25 on the schematic? i can't seem to measure stable resistance on this, only occasionally a quick jump in values then down to 1 (this could be a failing of my extremely cheap digital multimeter). if this was dead would it mean a...

Re: yamaha CS-10 stuck LFO!
I have a CS-15 that I think has some very slight LFO bleed-through which I haven't got round to investigating yet (undoing all those pot fastenings to get to the PC boards is bloody chore). I'm hoping it's just a calibration issue. The LFO circuit is identical to that of the CS-10. Do check trimpots...

Re: The first Casio?
I am un-moved. No feedback (audible or tactile) means seriously impeded learning curve., and much loss of enjoyment. Yeah, aside from the issues of cost and convenience in the days before cheap keyboards and headphones, this kind of thing is pretty indicative of the 'learning as penance' ethos that...

Re: Korg Mono/Poly dead keys (every 8th?)
Yeah you'll need to try and release the keyboard end to do a continuity test with a multimeter. Have a close look at the connector, are the blue splodges on the two narrow ends? Sometimes they glued on molex connectors to keep them secure. If there is, take a very sharp knife and run it down the sea...

There's be so many exiting new products popping up recently that I'm not really desperate to see anything - just more interested.

Re: Korg Mono/Poly dead keys (every 8th?)
Do you mean every eighth note from the dead G♯, or from the beginning of the keyboard? Check the 16-wire yellow connector between the keyboard and the KLM-366 board, particular the 10th connection. If this was dead it would explain the dead eighths up from the G♯. If this isn't the case it will be a...

Other than SSM/CEM thing, what is it that makes the Rev 2s so notorious upkeep-wise?
