Re: Clavinet sound
#-o It's just an amplified clavichord / harpsichord / spinet, which all go back to medieval times. Just like an electric guitar is just an amplified accoustic guitar... Same concept really. Yep, it's really just an electro-mechanical version of the unfretted clavichord which has been around for cen...

Re: Synthesiser music from 1968?
Good to see that a lot of ground has already been covered, but I would add Bruce Haack's earlier stuff as well as Hans Wurman's "The Moog Strikes Bach" - a crummy name riding on SOB's success (no doubt some exec's brainchild) but a wonderfully different take on electronic classical music from 1970.

Re: s**t Luck With Vintage Gear
I think I've been relatively lucky so far regarding older synths. Although, in a strange way I kind of enjoy the maintenance part: it's a challenge to overcome, I learn new things and I feel a bit more of a connect to instrument since I know more about how it works. If things get too much I can alwa...

Re: Polymoog: Vox Humana on 203a
That is a good question. I asked synthpro (youtube user who has restored several ones of both models.) the same when I got mine (isn't working yet  ). He answered Vox Humana is very hard to produce on the 203a but he did get close. Something with the design is a bit different I remember that ...

Re: Request an analog on Roland's Facebook page!
Where would the world be if everybody spared everyone else's feelings and never let them know when their idea was bad or a waste of time? In a world full of critics? But anyway, as painful as it is to admit, it would appear that Roland doesn't give two shits about what VSE thinks, so lets just move...

Polymoog Keyboard - HFO Bleedthrough
I've recently noticed that on a couple of presets - especially the clavichord one - you can hear the distinct high pitched whine of the unmodified high-frequency oscillators in the background. The pitch changes with tuning. I figured that it's some sort of issue on the filter board particular to the...

Re: DX7 Disasters!
The funniest about this is that Marc posted "his" segment on his youtube channel, and now the comments are berating him for hating their amazing DX7 synthesizer..not getting the humour aspect whatsoever :D Haha! I saw that last night and just checked up on the new comments... and what can you say? ...

Re: Question about vintage synths
Yeah, I think that the re-manufacture of such ICs is not so much one of technology (after all, this is all old stuff) but more of question of err... what do economists call it? - the opportunity cost of investing time and money diverting capital intensive manufacture to a relatively niche product. B...

Re: Aurora AR57: New Analog from the UK
Looks kewl. Price isn't cheap but is about the same as the LP Stage II in the UK - although I guess the latter has MIDI and an arpeggiator, which I know some of you fannies are sweet on :D. What's the deal with germanium transistors though? I know they're supposed to offer some sort of 'vintage' sou...

Re: What ever happened to Geddy Lee's giant Oberheim/Moog Sy
Distant early warning was a pretty neat pop song but aside from that euch. I think that would be Rush's pattern with or without synths: one good song per 5 albums. however... I was pretty shocked when I looked up some old YMO tunes. I used to be into that band in the early 80's! It's pretty much st...

Re: How vintage synths smell
the JX3P is my favourite.... I don't know whether it was a particular thing Roland used, general muck and tar from years of cigarette smoke or a mixture of both, but when I was installing the Kiwi-3p mod my hands got coated in a sticky brown substance the smelt, quite literally, of s**t. The polymo...

Hmm, not convinced by that 'Character' section and its artsy terminology. Several of the functions just reminded me of my ill-fated attempts to utilize the sync function on the ESQ-1.

Re: New Tom Oberheim OB-X rumors?
s**t, Mitch... it's not my fault no one ever went the extra step to allow control over which finger plays which note. How is "well, then... every finger plays the SAME OSCILLATOR SOUND" a solution to that problem? Let's face it: before there where chord-producing instruments, there were monophonic ...
