Re: Roland Modular
Well, Roland has definitely gone back into the analog world a bit backward, but...whatever. They're back, right? Those 500 series modules are pretty sexy.

Re: MicroBrute - How awesome is it?
It has a very lively tone and character. I often find myself drawn to the PWM sounds. It can do a very beefy, metallic but still very musical PWM bass. Adding in some of the brute factor and some sub osc adds icing on the cake. I have lost hours jamming with a sequence running and sweeping the EG am...

Re: Roland DCB cable
I'm pretty sure the earlier socket was for the Jupiter 8. I have a Juno 60, which is the same connector as on the MSQ--the 14 pin variety.

I think that goes for Korg in general during that era!HideawayStudio wrote:Out all the big name synth manufacturers I think Korg was the one making by far the most quirky and characterful instruments during that era.

Re: History of FM synthesis and digital synths
That was a really fascinating read. Thanks for posting that! It was inspirational. I love that he was convinced his discovery would change music forever when everyone around him was nonplussed. He seems like a very unique individual and I feel a deep kinship with him about the way he thinks about so...

Re: Why a juno 60 ???
A few female (all female or female-fronted) bands I really like who really know what they're doing with synths. Don't know how relevant this really is to the OP, but I thought I would throw it out there. CHVRCHES. They all play. They are partial to DSI gear and I imagine they're very excited about t...

The plop-plop-fssst-tsss rhythms on the Casio MT-68/CT-400V are lots of fun. Also partial to the SR-120 minipops.

Yes, probably I do. But there's a big DIY hobby place pretty close to where I live. Are they generic connectors or are they Roland's proprietary design?synthparts wrote:I have the DCB connectors of you need them...

Roland DCB cable
I'm finally fulfilling my lifelong dream of acquiring a Roland MSQ-700! Now all I need is a 2 way DCB cable to connect to my Juno 60. Ebay has nothing. Syntaur has nothing. I could order one from Kenton in the UK, but it's 57GBP plus international shipping! Any suggestions? Could I DIY it at a hobby...

Re: Analogue Drums in Casiotone synths (MT-52, MT-400v, ..)
The MT-68 is identical to the 65, just different colors. It has the same rhythms and percussion sounds as the 400V, just not the ability to run them through a low pass filter. I'm not getting rid of mine anytime soon. And don't forget the VL-1 with its analogue blips and bleeps. It's a different chi...

DrumTraks--Jumpy buttons and pots
So...I got a good deal on a DrumTraks. Cosmetically, it's been preserved pretty well. However, the pots are pretty jumpy (so that parameter values also jump), and the buttons on the front panel don't all work. They seem to be intermittent and some don't work. It skips over a rather important sequenc...
