Yes, I was going to say the same thing--sounds like an envelope issue--decrease the Sustain and see if that works...

Re: What got you started into synthesizers?

It's the otherworldly music of the alienated. At least for me.

Volca Bass sync options

Are there any? Is there a way to switch it so it plays nice with Roland's clock input for a Juno 60? Otherwise, the 60 plays every 2nd note. I'm pretty sure the Keys is switchable, but haven't found anything in the manual for the Bass. Or do I need some kind of switching box? (which I should probabl...

Re: when eBay listings include VintageSynth reviews

In my limited experience selling on eBay, I usually write as full a description of the item as I can, including features, detailed description of the condition, etc. Usually I know something enough about the item that I can write plenty off the top of my head. I DO use some info from the VSE page, i...

Mega-derp. I don't think you can do the LFO'd VCO thing in Unison mode. Oops. That would not make any sense.

Re: Jupiter 6 Vs Proph 08

Man, if the Jupiters weren't as pricey as they are I'd be all over that... Jupiter-8s are "pricey" but Jupiter-6s are still a good bargain. Too bad in that demo vid he doesn't mention the 2 things that separate the JP-6 from all the other Jupiters - the ability to combine waveforms on both VCOs and...

Re: Is the ms20 mini a good entry point into modular synthes

Online forums are weird. I try not to accuse anyone of anything, and not take things too personally. From my limited perspective, though Marc (Automatic Gainsay) may use colorful language, he really knows what he's talking about. I have learned a ton of very interesting facts and principles from his...

Re: Synth's Controls Affect On Oscope Waveforms

I've been reading up on what I can about filter theory recently. This is part of a helpful series of articles posted some time ago serially in SOS, and I read it recently. I think I understand the bottom line, but I still get lost in the technical theory. However, I think this helps explain a little...

Really? Didn't know that. But you don't program it "operator style" do you?
I thought it was exactly the same as the engine in the EA-1, and the same as the Z1; precursor to the MMT engine in the MS-2K and the MK. Not true?

Re: Keyboard stand suggestions?

I got real lucky and found a used Ultimate Supports triple stand for $20 on CL. Granted, it's 30 years old, but I still consider it a steal. The thing is rock solid. It won't hold a full-sized 88-key board, but that's about the only limitation. Sitting on it right now quite comfortably are a Juno 60...

Re: bass amp for synth bass?

One of the bands I mix has an all-synth lineup, whenever possible I get the guy who plays synth bass to run it through a bass amp which I mic up instead of just DIing it. Beefs up the bass, adds a bit of grit and punch and makes my foldback mix a little easier. I think it's a good thing to do, alth...

bass amp for synth bass?

I'm considering buying a bass amp specifically for handling bass synth duties during live performance--is there any advantage to this? It's not a very professional production situation--more for having fun around my house and at school with kids. The idea is that it's a dedicated amp just for bassli...

Great time to get a VA

This is a "just sayin'" kind of post... It seems that right now is a great time for analog gear...but it's maybe an even better time to get in on the VA game, if you need a workhorse synth. Prices are falling on the MS-2K, JP-8K and Ultranova in particular. Savvy buyers take notice. I'm considering ...

Re: Any Korg EX 800 Users?

i've since sold my Poly 800's. But just a few days ago I was going through some old recordings and couldnt beleive how many really good sounds I got with them. they are a b***h to make patches on, and the envelopes are kind of c**p. But something about polyphony with one filter over all the notes k...
