Re: Any Korg EX 800 Users?

i've since sold my Poly 800's. But just a few days ago I was going through some old recordings and couldnt beleive how many really good sounds I got with them. they are a b***h to make patches on, and the envelopes are kind of c**p. But something about polyphony with one filter over all the notes k...

Re: Microkorg Lead

So...not to be mean...but...you have a MicroKorg? Have you played through its presets? Preset A15 in the first preset bank is pretty much that exact sound. So I'll leave the theory out of it. If you or a previous owner has not erased that preset, you already have that lead sound. Sounds like standar...

MFB Dominion 1

This thing looks amazing. Does the world need another VCO mono? Why yes, yes it does. This one. Talk about a replacement for the Pro One... I have heard that MFB stuff is a little on the cheap side construction-wise, but this looks like something to contend with. Bump up in build quality one hopes? ...

Re: Anyone recognize this?

The gakken SX-150 cardboard minisynth didn't have a keyboard..maybe someone engineered it into a synth though. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xBxx8FnvtUI/TlYYAdWroMI/AAAAAAAAACA/p1oQwvKJfJo/s1600/IMG_4020.JPG Looks similar, bad angle on the OP though. This synth wasn't for sale though, it was included w...

Re: 808 vs DR-110 kick design

If you compare the 606 and 808 schematics, you'll find, rather interestingly I think, that the 808 kick and 606 snare use the same technique for the tonal part of their sound, and the 808 snare and 606 kick use the same technique for theirs; that is, the 808 kick/606 snare use a single T with trigg...

Re: 808 vs DR-110 kick design

I made my 606 kick drum sound like the 808 except for the slow pitch drop. The 606 kick typically uses two T oscillators that fire together with a very short decay. The "Plutonique 9 mod" found online shows how you turn one of them into a decay feedback stage. Unless the DR-110 already has one of t...

808 vs DR-110 kick design

I was reading up on how to create bass drum kick sounds; there is an interesting theory/tutorial series from SOS about a decade ago. In it, they explain the circuit design of the 808 kick, and how it's simpler than the 909 circuit. I have a modified DR-110 (bought from a forum member) with decay and...

Re: JRR Secret Sale

Yeah, it doesn't give any info on the web page that I can see. I'm on the mailing list, and it was advertised buy two, get one free. I think I might back out now that I'm thinking about all the logistics involved. If I wasn't running a show for a high school drama festival this weekend, I would be m...

Re: Minibrute Vs. Microbrute

Oh my, that is a relief. lol  It's one of the funniest threads in online synth forum history. Sorry if I was being obtuse if not just obscure... Back on topic, though...*having played neither of them*, I am tending toward the Micro because of the onboard sequencer and the ability to patch it o...

Re: JRR Secret Sale

Would the $400 be because you're going to keep the second ? Becaause that wouldn't be a bad deal at all if I could pick up a mini for $400... Also, how would it work if one were to do the $599 with the Volca Beats as opposed to the $599 for just the MS20..?? It would be $1200 all together--three pe...

Re: VSE Winter Hybrid Synth Competition: VOTE HERE!

What should we do for the next theme? Early digital, maybe? DCO synths? I think that would be great. I'd like to see a competition using only '80s polys, most of which used DCOs. The list of possible machines here is practically endless. Everything from the Roland Juno 60 down to the lowly (in some...

JRR Secret Sale

So...MS-20 Mini is part of JRR shop's secret sale, where you buy two instruments/products and get a third free.

Anyone want to go in on an MS-20 for $400+ship? Any issues/problems with that? Ends on the 28th.

Re: VSE Winter Hybrid Synth Competition: VOTE HERE!

These submissions were all really unique! I enjoyed doing this song. I did "Isolation" with the Sq80. I opted out of using the onboard sequencer, but sequenced and tracked each part separately into Ableton. The drums were damn fun haha! They are somehow both the worst/best drum samples ever. I had ...

So...you have a Minibrute and Microbrute and you detune them...THAN WHAT?

Re: VSE Winter Hybrid Synth Competition: VOTE HERE!

Too bad I just missed voting. I would have voted for Isolation. So kudos to whoever made that track. Felt very solid and reminded me a lot of Holy Ghost's recent offering Dynamics, which is definitely one of my top three favorite records of 2013. Good work to those who got it together to submit some...
