Re: What synth is used for the pew pew sound in this song?
Welcome to the forum! To answer your question, it's hard to say. The film was released in 1980, so no machine produced after that date could have been used. That said, the "pew pew" that you describe sounds like a version of the oft-used "synth tom" percussion sound, which could be duplicated on vir...

Re: Arturia Beat Step---$99 CV step sequencer!
OTOH I am finding it hard to rationalize buying any more of the VOS sequencer kits or any other sequencer kits. They don't have midi sync and will end up costing more when you figure in case etc. OT: True. I think most synth kits are a waste of money. Generally, you don't save that much over mass-p...

Re: New stuff from Roland!
I know that to be the case after watching a few of your videos on YouTube. But the rest of us...well, we need a little more help. Hmm...I can't figure out if this is a sarcastic statement. Griffin Avi'd's youtube channel is filled with product demos and lots of coverage of previous NAMMs. And my pe...

Re: New stuff from Roland!
The collective internet response is going to be epic no matter what they announce. I'm going to take the opposite stand of NOT NEEDING a PRODUCT FROM GOD to make my music with. For most of these releases, how much more must it do than what it hints at on the tin to be an effective music tool? Of co...

Re: What synth sound was used on Connection by Elastica?
Definitely sampled guitar power chord. Could even be a sample of the guitar from the Wire song! I love the lo-fi-ness of the sample. It reminds me of a Casio SK-1 or Akai S612. Roger Wire sued Elastica for use of the sample without permission and they settled out of court. I don't think that's quit...

Re: Freaqbox Murmux
Looks like it is priced pretty nice! http://www.synthtopia.com/content/2014/01/29/freaqbox-murmux-semi-modular-synthesizer/ $1,345 is "nice"? You can spend that same $1,345 and get an Elektron Analog Four and get a lot more synth for your money. In fact, I can think of about 20 instruments I would ...

According to the company's website, they're all handmade "with love" (whatever that means). So expect to pay a bundle.

Re: New Elektron Machine
Yeah, I don't get all the bitching about pad placement. For one thing, if I were to do any hand-drumming at all, I would do it with both hands. It's very unlikely that I would ever drum with one hand and twist knobs with the other simultaneusly (and I doubt that many people are coordinated enough to...

"Stunning" and "will blow you away" according to MusicTech...one does wonder: http://www.musictech.net/2014/01/namm-2014-roland-aira-weve-seen-it/ I really can’t reveal what I saw unless it’s from a prison cell. Wow. Apparently this guy thinks he can be sent to jail for violating a confidentiality ...
