Re: Price discrepancies?
So in the 90s you'd see an outdated 80s shredder for $1500 because the original price was $2000, but in reality there was no demand for that supply. Back before the interwebs, there used to be a series of "Blue Book" price guides that were used to figure out what everything was worth. They had page...

I started buying synths in the mid-80s, and at that point, I learned about gear based on what I read in Keyboard, Electronic Musician, and Music Technology magazines and what I read off the back of albums and liner notes. Back then, what I bou...

Re: Synth+Sampler+Seq:What Workstation?
Midi - YES! Get a Series IIx.
Price, well, that's not so competitive. In the $5000+ range when you can find them available.

Re: CUBASE, external sequencers and sync...
Can you set your hardware sequencers to external sync and then have Cubase send the sync. Press play/record on Cubase and the hardware will start running.

Re: Am I ruining my synths by letting them get too hot?
I have my synthroom on the top floor of my home, and it can get 105F up there in the summer. I have no air conditioning (it is the Pacific Northwest, after all) so I use a fan to actually pull outside air into the room on sunny days to try and keep the room from getting not much warmer than the outs...

Re: roland D50 vs JD 800
as D-50 doesn't/can't do 'scary' What!!?? See Patch 81 - Intruder FX That's one scary patch, especially when you grind it down into the lows with a lot of aftertouch! I played that patch on the first D-50 I touched in 1987 and it sold me on it. But re: D-50 vs. JD-800, they are both really cool sou...

Re: what synths owe to disco music
As someone that lived through that era, these were the pre-disco songs I noticed on the radio, prog and krautrock included - The Monkeys - Nightly Daily, 1967 Carlos - SOB, 1968 ELP, Lucky Man, 1970 Hot Butter - Popcorn, 1972 Edgar Winter - Frankenstein, 1973 Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon, 1973...
