Re: 8x8 MIDI patchbay with input merge?

Should I look into M-Audio Midisport 8x8 I like the Midisport 8x8, it's very flexible; however, you need a computer to configure the routings. I've got two Midisport 8x8s - they work fine with Win7. And since they are actual Midi interfaces, you can just connect directly to devices without using an...

Re: Awaken From The Dead!: Rare 1982 DK Synergy II+

Thanks! Those sounds really cool.

The Fairlight can to additive synthesis, but you only get the 8 voice cards to work with, each having 32 harmonics to built the sounds. Your Synergy certainly has more provisions to make more complex sounds than the Fairlight does.

Re: SOFTWARE REVOLUTION

You can get 60W LEDs that look way better color temp wise than CFL for like $5 now at Home Depot. I'm buying a couple every trip there and swapping them with any CFL that has a chance of getting broken, like table and floor lights. I never liked having the mercury in the CLFs sitting around waiting ...

Re: What are your PC set ups?

I built a Asus Z87-Plus i5 system in January. It has 2 PCI slots.

It's not being used for music but it's run stable with Win 8. It's as fast as my two year old i7 2600K system.

Re: Help with used Emu Emax 1

Replacing the HD is easy - provided you find the right kind. It will be a SCSI drive, so that's not something you will find at your local computer shop. I've got a SCSI drive I bought for my Emax II but I'm sure it's too large (storage wise) for the Emax I. It could be a power issue that's not allow...

Re: Help with used Emu Emax 1

Yeah, it would have to have a hard drive in it to work as you described. I don't think the original Emax could take a hard drive, so perhaps yours was upgraded at some point, or it's an Emax HD or Emax SE HD? I have and Emax II and it's pretty easy to take to bottom cover off and look inside to see ...

Re: SOFTWARE REVOLUTION

I have difficulty believing that, say, a Z80, a VFD display, and a dozen or so analog ICs draws anywhere near as much power as even just my laptop (to say nothing of my recording/mixing PC.) A lot of gear, except the really old stuff, will have a wattage rating on the sticker with the serial number...

Re: Roland S760

SCSI can be a pain! But it's also a lot better nowadays with say a Win XP box than it was with a Win 3.1 box. I've got an array of both SCSI and USB Zip 100MB and 250MB and Jaz 1GB and 2GB drives, and a couple SyQuest drives that came with some disk collections I've bought, and every thing works pre...

Re: roland D50 vs JD 800

There's not that much overlap. They sounds different enough to me to have one of each.

Definitely watch out for the red goo on the JD-800. It can be repaired fairly easily, but it's a bit of time to do it.

Re: Some trolling from Katsunori Ujiie

Wasn't there a time when Korg was owned by Yamaha, or still is? Yamaha bought controlling interest in Korg in 1987. That's partly why when Yamaha, who also bought Sequential Circuits, layed off the engineers they got from Sequential, they went to work at Korg, and took the Prophet VS ideas and made...

Re: mid 80s strings patch...

Congrats for your tracks, very nice work! That wasn't really any of my work - I got ahold of a disk that was being prepped (in 1986) for the Pet Shop Boys Tour that never happened. Try this for a Emulator II softsynth: http://www.uvi.net/en/vintage-corner/emulation-ii.html I've not used it, but it ...
