Re: Wendy Carlos/"Switched-On Bach" Available for Download??
Another big SOB fan.
I bought the SOB 2000 when it came out and I was underwhelmed. It sounded to perfect, I suppose. And I find the more authentic tunings don't seem to mesh with my ears...

You're right. We in the USA really take a lot of things for granted.

That's a great clip! I love the tank and rocket launcher props in the back. The rocket launcher even had rockets in it!
Perhaps PBS will replace that awful Celtic Thunder show that they run during pledge month with this.

And thanks, Jeff, to developing the HxC!
It is fantastic - I've a Rev. F in my Emulator II and one of JB Emond's kits in my Fairlight. They are bringing new life to these old instruments!

It would be perfect to feature in a music video so that in 20 years, people can debate what it is and just how crucial it was to the sound of the artist...

Re: MacBeth M5 Korg Kronos 73 sell it?
My rule of thumb is to only sell stuff that's readily available AND cheap to replace. An ARP 2600 does not fall into that as it's not too hard to replace, but it's not going to be cheap. A JD-800, is both cheap ( less than $1000) and easy to fund used. Same with the Kronos. Keep the M5 until you are...

Re: VSE March Competition poll
Mine was Paraphonic Activity. I guess the debate about paraphony was on my mind. Anyway, I used a Poly-800; a synth I never spent much time with before. The song came about from a riff I used to jam with using the chord memory function. Not my best effort, but it was fun. The P800 does NOT like to ...

Re: VSE March Competition poll
Lots of good stuff here!
I voted for Paraphonic Activity. Fun and lots of good sounds.
Close behind for me were Arrival, Sea Glass, Dominion, and Echoes - Antarctica.

Re: Emulator II
There's a few sites out there that have EII libraries available as disk images. Those combined with the EMXP software will allow you to convert to your heart's content to WAV or Soundfont format.

Re: Basic Oscilloscope
I bought one of these last year: http://www.rigolna.com/products/digital-oscilloscopes/ds1000e/ds1102e/ For $400, it seems like a pretty good deal. I don't expect it will last as long as a Tek or HP unit, but for the price, it looks pretty good. The display is a lot nicer than the old tube displays,...

Re: synths as investment
Collect what you love. Knowing that they will hold value, or at least not decrease in value, can help justify the expense. I bought my Fairlight a couple years ago, it was by far the most expensive synth I've ever bought. I missed the bottom of the dip by about 10 years, but I figured if I was ever ...

Best way? Get an Emulator II!

Re: Would you buy a CS80 if re-released?
I drive a 2003 Renault, not because I like the year, but it happened to be convenient (read: it wasn't that expensive :)). Totally off topic, but I thought you were from the states (CA?) ? If I'm wrong never mind, but if that's so, right on ! You are likely one of only a handful of Renault drivers ...
