Re: Yamaha DX7s Battery

I don't know the battery type in the DX7, but I wouldn't run the risk of a dead battery leaking and damaging something. Some Korgs are notorious for this reason, and some battery types are more likely to leak than others. Some batteries can be replaced with a holder that lets you do future replacem...

Re: On the importance of using "hot" gear

[...] Most of my vintage gear was bought when nobody wanted it, prices were cheap and it was all I could afford. I wouldn't spend anywhere near the amount of money it goes for these days. [...] Same here! Back in 1989, a Korg M-1 was priced around 4,000 DM, a Mini Moog was 750 DM. I was a pupil bac...

Re: What synth have you bought more than one of?

I have two Roland JX-3P because I happened to get them when they were cheap, and I like them. I also have two of the new Oberheim SEM modules (with patch panels) because this is the only way to get close to a Two Voice for the time being. I also have two ARP Sequencers because I am used to working w...

Re: On the importance of using "hot" gear

I've always used the instruments I use -- I don't care for trends, Internet communities, other people's opinions, you name it. The instruments I use were discarded as junk at the time I bought them, and many people believed me to be utterly stupid -- I would use these instruments even if they still ...

Re: How did Front Line Assembly create this sound?

Didn't FLA have an Oberheim Four Voice/Eight Voice in their rig? The SEM is really good at those bandpass/notch-type filter things.

Re: Synth Demos That Make You Want The Synth

There is so much shoddy demo stuff available on the internet but these two make me lust after those instruments immediately:

I take it you don't like Redshift, then:

I especially enjoy this as I was playing before Redshift :).

That one isn't bad either:

Or this one:

Re: SPACE ECHO Echo Suddenly Stopped Working (Roland RE-201)

Oh c**p, you're right. I remember holding back on the leaf spring yesterday trying to see if a little less tension would help. I must have actually accidentally bent it a little. :( It says right there in the guide "DO NOT BEND LEAF SPRING." Well, that was stupid..... If I've slightly bent the leaf...

Re: Korg Might Be Up To Something.

I don't think this particular forum represents the "young and hip" crowd anyway :D Except for Marc Doty And that's through hairstyle only. Who's that? There should be a re-release of the ARP 2600 coming. At NAMM 2016 it will be announced as the new Korg ARP 2600. Price tag around 2400USD. Yeah, sur...

Re: Yamaha CS-80 cs80 how much do they go for today?

My CS80 was about to be taken to the landfill when its original owner was preparing to relocate to Down Under. That was in 2000. But seriously, this rarely happens these days -- the last thing I heard about was this Elka Synthex that had been sitting in an attic for twenty years, in its original box...

There is a VCS-3 for sale on eBay at the moment, and I do think the price is a little steep indeed (23,000 US$).

Re: Arp Odyssey

True the Mk. 1 VCOs are a lot more erratic than later versions but mine stays reasonably in tune (even though tracking tends to be a bit poor across the entire switchable range when using the Transpose lever).
