Re: Yamaha CS-80 cs80 how much do they go for today?

This is just to coincide with a sudden drop in CS80´s going rates. There are two up for auction on eBay, and they are surprisingly *cheap*, compared to what they went for a year or two ago.

Still way overpriced IMO but what do I know.

And even though the strings are well usable, there are nicer ones around. I grew tired of the Trident after about half an hour.

Why trade a fully-fledged, albeit limited, synthesiser for a string ensemble halfway house?

Re: Dust on synths: how do you deal with it ?

Paint brush to remove dust from corners, a sock put across the nozzle of a vacuum to suck in as much dust as I possibly can, and if unused for an extended period of time, the instrument gets stowed away in its flightcase, with some humidity absorbers to prevent corrosion. I also use an electro-stati...

Re: Thinking of selling my CS-50. Thoughts? Replacements?

There is no replacement for the timbre of a CS50 -- nothing out there sounds quite like it IMO. The Xpander is a nice synthesiser as well, and so certainly is the P12 but they do not really replace a CS50 in terms of sound. Entirely different construction site, as we would say in German. In terms of...

Re: Desireless - Voyage Voyage - synths used

I reckon most of it is PPG and Waveterm. There is a sampler on there too (playing credited to the producer on the back of the record sleeve). The sequence, in particular, has that PPG texture; it can be heard in isolation on the 12" mix. Several French websites make reference to a PPG. Glad you thr...

Re: Monophonic preset synthesizers ???

Wolfgang Palm says in his "PPG story" that 16 units were sold: http://wolfgangpalm.com/about/ppg_blogs/c4/ Not sure what number is correct because in Mark Vail's "Vintage synthesizers" he mentions that "I think we sold only six pieces of that machine". It's cool to hear that you actually had one! W...

Re: Monophonic preset synthesizers ???

Actually the 16 presets on the might Yamaha CS-80 were hardwired "patches" too. No digital patch storage. The first synth to have actual rewritable patch memory was the Prophet-5. The PPG 1003 "Sonic Carrier" duophonic synth was fully programmable (50 memories) and it predated the Prophet 5 by a ye...

Re: Selling Yamaha Electone EX-1

I once took the hassle of having an EX-1 with two TX cabinets shipped from the USA to Germany. It was fully crated by the forwarding company, weighed in at half a ton, *and* it was shipped in a 40' container -- it was a nightmare. Much to my amazement, the instrument survived that massive journey, a...

Re: Monophonic preset synthesizers ???

And not every keyboardist was a great synthesiser programmer (or cared to be, for that matter).

I wonder why Emerson didn´t replace his Moog with something like an SH-2000 or something...

Re: Triadex Muse software sequencer & Future Retro Zillion

Strictly speaking, the Muse doesn´t have a "sequencer" -- it has a couple of switches that can be combined in numerous ways to produce unpredictable strings of pitches, arranged in patterns of varying length, based on the output of logic modules, shift registers, and mojo. It is not exactly pitched,...

I recently missed out on one that was priced at 2,500 Euros. This is what I would consider "reasonable", maybe 3,000 Euros if it´s a posh colour.

I wouldn´t kick one out of bed at 1,500 Euros either.

Re: Synton Syrinx #1

The most idiosyncratic sounds of the Syrinx are produced by running signals into the resonator *and* the low-pass filter simultaneously, either in serial or in parallel mode. That makes for a huge difference and that´s a lot more than just having either an LPF or an HPF or a bandpass/notch filter at...

I remember his keyboard player used a Logan String Melody along with an RMI Rocksichord/Electrapiano and grand piano on the 1977 tour.

Re: Synton Syrinx #1

I fondly remember the days when there were lots of them in stock at Sensomania in Amsterdam, priced at 750 Guilders each. They wouldn´t sell even if you were paid 750 Guilders. Those were the days... Honestly, the Syrinx could make me part with my RMI Harmonic Synthesizer but how on earth did they m...
