Re: GEM Equinox 61 vs Technics WSA-1
Erm, the WSA-1 is a poor man´s Yamaha VP-1. It´s probably the only affordable polyphonic Physical Modelling synthesiser available, and this is where its strengths lie. Yes, you can do a lot of guitar and organ and strings and piano and horns and woodwinds with it... but why, if there´s so much more ...

Re: What can a Roland JX-3P do without PG 200 programmer
It´s not the synth that is limited, it´s your own imagination. Ah, wheeling out that old cliché. The guy's a noob, doesn't know how to use a decidedly unfriendly synth. Nothing to do with imagination. When I was a noob, I just tweaked and tweaked until I got what I wanted. You wouldn´t believe how ...

Re: Synclavier Buying Tips
If you buy one -- no matter what setup --, be prepared to spend at least twice as much on repairs and maintenance.
A friend of mine had two S2 (without the sampling option, only the FM engine), and I guess it was the most expensive learning experience he has ever made.

Re: What can a Roland JX-3P do without PG 200 programmer
[...] It is really limited and nothing much can be done with it (except taking up space and producing less than wonderful preset sounds). [...] It´s not the synth that is limited, it´s your own imagination. Seriously, you must be doing something wrong as the 3P is easy to use even without the progr...

Re: What synth did kitaro use to create that sweeping sound
That modulated white noise (whoosh-whoosh) could be anything but my guess would be Mini Moog. There´s no VP-330 audible in the link mentioned above. But yeah, the VP-330 is one of his signature sounds -- Kitaro (and John Kerr) were the ones who turned me on to this instrument. I thought you were ref...

Re: Yamaha CP-60/70/80 series (and a bit more)
I don't understand why people are so sensitive to heavy instruments. [...] How old are you? What floor is your studio on? Have you ever had any hand or arm injuries? Not exactly, as PASS was earlier than CP electronic pianos :-) E70/50 are from 1977. [...] Ah, thanks for the info -- I´ve always had...

Re: Yamaha CP-60/70/80 series (and a bit more)
I had CP25 for a few years from new in the early 1980s. A beautiful instrument to play. The manual stated that the tone generators were based on a square wave analogue design. Which, I´m sure, later evolved into the PASS technology, used with their Electone organs (like the E70 and bigger). Stephen

Re: Rhodes and Wurlitzer... Why so volatile?
Rhodes Piano Bass eBay asking prices have increased dramatically in the last year. A year ago the typical asking price for a common model of Piano Bass was around $700-1000. Last year I got a near mint 1973 for $810 on eBay. Now certain older models are listed in the $2-4K range and less desirable ...

Re: Yamaha CP-60/70/80 series (and a bit more)
Wow, a lot of great stuff here, thanks everyone :D I am almost positive that Yamaha's first range of FM instruments was the pf 10/20 and 70/80. [...] You certainly meant PF-15. The CP-70 and 80 are electric grand pianos, semi-acoustic, with soundboard and pick-ups. Not quite up to Bösendorfer stand...

Re: Yamaha CP-60/70/80 series (and a bit more)
The CP-25/35 are actually digital FM instruments with analog filtering and chorus. [...] Are you sure they are actually FM? Of course, the CP-35 looks like a deadringer for a GS-2, but I can´t imagine Yamaha would have offered the same technology for half the price. The 25/35 seems to be more based...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
Didn't Korg make modular systems sometime in the 70's? I've kept reading that JM Jarre used alot of Korg modular gear on his 1979/1981 concerts, since Francis Rimbert worked at Korg at the time. Calling a Korg PS-3100/3200/3300 "modular" isn´t exactly accurate. Yes, these were the only polyphonic s...
