Re: New stuff from Roland!
You go ahead and smack, man. But if it's "Gaia" or "SH-201" or the VA section of the Jupiter-80, those would be exactly what I'm talking about. (And for the record, I don't count the classic Roland LA synths as virtual-analog - they're subtractive, and they sound quite good on their own merits, but ...

Re: New stuff from Roland!
I've yet to hear Roland do it right, though. Every piece of Roland VA gear I've tried has been like the sonic equivalent of eating wallpaper paste.wiss wrote:When VA's are done right, they sound fantastic, NORD MODULR and CREAMWARE

Re: Talk me out of getting a Polysix
I've got no idea what you really look for in a synth I like a characteristic, organic sound (I've got little use for a synth that doesn't put its own mark on the noises you make with it, it's like the sonic equivalent of bland store-brand peanut butter,) as much control to-hand as possible, and a r...

Re: Talk me out of getting a Polysix
Well, all the ones I was watching went out of my price range, so that's that for the moment. Still, the discussion was good, and I was reminded of why I wanted a Polysix to begin with, as well as learning why I also want a Prophet 600...though I guess that means this thread failed at its stated purp...

Re: A lot of choises! I need help.
Only one I have experience with is the Microkorg. If you want "raw" sounds, you could certainly do a lot worse - it's got a nice gritty digital character to it. It's not great for live tweaking, since the parameters have to be accessed from a grand total of four knobs, but other than that it's prett...

Re: Is there a decent (free) FB-01 editor for Windows?
The layout's not bad, but the controls are just insane. I'd like to know how the author concluded that a pushbutton you click and drag on (as commonly seen in no other program ever ) was a more appropriate choice for selecting from a limited range of values than a freakin' slider...ye gods . I suppo...

Re: How often do you use hardware live, if at all?
I don't play live since I'm woefully out of practice (two years of piano lessons, ten years of not keeping up on them...) In the studio, I've been exclusively sequenced for a long time (see: ten years of not playing,) but as I've been picking back up on my keyboard abilities I'm starting to change t...

Re: New stuff from Roland!
I know it's not that important but does that green put anyone else off as much as it does me? The whole thing is pretty garish, even the red/orange lighting. It's not as painful to look at as blue LEDs were when everybody was using them for everything, but it's still pretty unnecessary, and...

Is there a decent (free) FB-01 editor for Windows?
I've got an FB-01 that I feel like I really ought to do more with, but I'm kind of hampered by the presets not being that great and there only seeming to be one librarian/editor for it that runs on Windows ( this one ,) which really, really sucks - like a lot of multiplatform FOSS projects, it solve...

But they won't, because Roland just hates money and success.
