Re: What was the cheapest Synth you ever bought?

Got my Yamaha V50 for $100 from a guy whose girlfriend had used it as a glorified electric piano. Even considering that the battery and drive belt needed replacing, not a bad deal.

Though in terms of good deals rather than strict dollar amount, getting my Matrix-6 for $300 wasn't too bad either.

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

Straight up honestly, Roland tb-303 would be total c**p if it came out with current standardss. Was c**p then, and always will be c**p, but hey see the fashionable synth thread here for any insight to possibly why I'd keep it around to show off when the cheese pattay and IPA beer can coasters run l...

Re: Modern Analog Song Competition

It was decided that one effect would be allowed, if you go back and look.

Though some of us are sticking by the no-FX idea.

Re: Raffle for minimoog signed by Gary Numan

The whole affair looks a bit flakey, just like the entire Foundation thingy... desperately trying to raise funds and get attention, by any means. But that´s only me, of course. Eh. If $20 gets me a shot at a Minimoog, that's a worthwhile gamble. I'm quite certain my odds are going to be better than...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

I liked the Orchestrator's strings. Beyond that it was a boat anchor. The brass section sounds like The Warriors. Might not be everyone's thing but I love that movie. Piano is beautiful in that aphex twin sort of way. Having now finally gotten mine and gotten to play around with it, I'll second thi...

Re: Cool LFOs

I see someone's already mentioned the Xpander, but the Oberheim Matrix-6 has some interesting possibilities - fundamentally it's just the basics (upsaw, downsaw, triangle, square, noise/random,) but it gets a bit more interesting in that you can make one LFO sample-and-hold the other LFO's output at...

Yes, smaller is definitely what we need! Don't stop until the controls are too small to be operated by anything larger than tweezers! All hail the Picobrute!

Re: Sell everything and grab a CS-80

When you look at the prices that are charged for fully restored CS-80's you have to take that into account, they are going to be expensive no matter who buys them. Understand, I'm not saying "oh, why aren't they $500-800 like my JX-10?" Yeah, something that there were only ever a couple thousand un...

Re: Thoughts on the V50?

Either one would be excellent (though I prefer the tone of the original DX7 to the DX7-II series that the DX7-S is a part of.) However, if you want multitimbral or workstation type stuff, the V50 is the way to go.

Re: Selling my JX-8P in favour of a Waldorf Blofeld?

For what it's worth, I paid $700 for my JX-10 + PG-800, both of which were in great shape, with manuals (and the PG-800 carrying case.)

Re: Sell everything and grab a CS-80

Someone is an idiot because they have more money than you and place a greater value on an item than your estimate of what you think the value should be? Not everybody who pays more for something than I would is an idiot. But there are people who pay extreme amounts of money for something because th...

Re: Sell everything and grab a CS-80

Yeah, the "inherent value equals what people will pay for it" idea gets shot to h**l when you factor in rich idiots who want a status symbol and greedy sellers who are plenty willing to troll the waters a long time for that kind of payoff. eBay has made that easier than ever...

Yeah, I get you there, and it does seem odd that it would cut the resolution for either storage or transfer from what it actually uses, but whaddya gonna do, I guess...
