Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

The MT-32 is cheesy for sure, but it gets a lot better with custom patches (would've been nice if it'd had any kind of on-board editing,) and I'll give it a pass just for being so much better than most home-computer sound devices of the time. Definitely doesn't lay a finger on the D-50, though.

Re: New Elektron Machine

I dunno. Yeah, features, yay for features. Still, when I could buy at least three good vintage polys or one major classic for the price of this, I think it would make me question how much I really want the fancy doodads.

Re: Oberheim OB-8 pot scanning resolution?

(seeing that no one really mentions this as a weak spot I guess it isn't though). I think this is probably the important point - it's too easy to get caught up in technical wankery and forget about the main point: does it sound good? Obviously, since it's still sought-after and used to this day. Th...

$1850? Yikes. There's so many analog polys I could get for that kind of money.

You know, I'm not gonna dispute that, but man, I have a PSR-48 anyway just for the baddest-ass demo tune ever...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

If you want a gigantic 50+lbs string machine, than it actually didn't sound horrible. The strings were good, but everything else was pretty bad IMO. The keys had a very shallow depth, and weren't very playable. A friend found it at a yard sale for free... Probably a matter of taste, I guess, but I ...

Crumar Orchestrator There's actually a guy in my city who called to offer one - I like the sound of it from the demos I've heard, but the j**k hasn't called me back in a week! 9) Korg DW-8000... it's actually not that bad of a sound... but I cant believe how big the thing is considering it only has...

Re: to recreate acustic sound the better is digital not anal

Analog synths do the fretless sound extremely well. I rolled up a really good version on my MS-20 Mini that I was going to use for the modern analog compo, but I couldn't get a tune going around it.

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

The Gaia's boring, flavorless c**p for sure. I'm not sure, though, if it's too bland to belong in the worst of the worst, or if its failure to be even memorably bad makes it worse than the really terrible c**p...

Re: Gear Trading Thread

Also for trade: a Casio CZ-1000 that I'm not using either. Works fine, all the membrane switches are good, sound is clean. I've got a set of batteries in it to back up the patch/performance settings. Includes the flight case. As above, looking for a Minibrute or some other good analog gear. Give me ...

Re: Bottom Ten Worst Synths of All Time

- The Korg X5 interactive music workstation (which might actually be okay, I dunno) It is, actually - it's basically a keyboard version of the 05/RW module. Not a world-shattering classic, but a decent little AI² ROMpler with some nice sounds. "Workstation" probably isn't the right word for it, tho...

Re: Sell everything and grab a CS-80

A Chroma is certainly a lot easier to cart around. Even if you think you'll never need to take it out of your studio, or don't ever plan to move, sooner or later you'll need to move it. Of course a CS80 is still lighter than a B3.... Now that you mention it, I'm curious - how well does the CS-80 di...
