Re: do any of you jam with other synth guys?
Ah yes, I remember that guy. Yeah, it would've been fun to get down to the Cities sometime, but unfortunately the point where I had acquired a few different fun pieces of gear to play around with was closely followed by the point where I became unemployed and couldn't afford a whole lot of extra dri...

Re: do any of you jam with other synth guys?
I haven't, mostly because I didn't know any other synth enthusiasts in my area when I lived in Duluth (though I did see a post from someone else here who lives there, after I moved!) But now that I'm within an hour of Sacramento and day-trip distance from the Bay Area I suppose I should maybe give i...

Well, it would be bad for the synths, you know.seamonkey wrote:I feel like I just had bad sex and didn't even get a smoke afterwards.

Re: Roland D-50 vs Ensoniq's Transwaves synths
Yeah. The Ensoniq is versatile and easily programmable for a parameter-access synth, but the D-50 just has this magic to its sound that you can't get anywhere else.

Re: Prophet 6
Mm, nice to hear something other than the "hey check out this random techno patch!" tidbits that dominated everybody's NAMM coverage. I'm a little curious, though - it sounds a bit thin in the bass end, and I'm not sure if that's the basic tone or just the patches being used/having the high-pass fil...

Re: korg dss1 ever had one?
Well, it's not quite CS-80 levels of massive - but yeah, it is a beast alright. You could pretty much fit an entire other smallish keyboard (h**l, maybe even a mid-sized '70s stringer) on top of it and not even cover up the controls.

Re: Greetings From Yamaha USA Pro Music Customer Support
Pass on our regards to the guys who signed off on giving Dave Smith his company name back. Also, tell your development guys to look into doing analog and FM synths again.

Re: korg dss1 ever had one?
Yes, it's the goods as far as sound is concerned. Same excellent dark spacey SSM sound as the DW-8000, plus another delay unit, oscillator sync, and some other goodies. The only downsides are A. it's just slightly too small to pass for a ping-pong table, and more importantly B. the LFO is, for some ...

Re: Moog Sub 37
To be honest, I don't know why people always say, "But this synth has sooooooooo many modulation possibilities, why aren't people doing x, y, or z with it? The 4 LFOs can be routed to 416 different sources, man!" Here's a simple answer: people want classic synthesizer sounds. The ones they've been ...

Re: Korg to release ARP Odyssey
Look, like them or not they're just a byproduct of the way the industry has become, they are convenient, cheap, easy to replace and make using gear in different countries a whole lot easier. They're certainly not convenient, they're never as easy to replace as you'd think (thanks to the wild profli...

On what planet in what universe is a wall-wart an improvement?
Look, MIDI, sure. But a wall wart? Smallpox was less of a plague than wall warts.

Re: Modal (Modulus) Goes Insane at Messe: three new synths
$5500? Ouch. I suppose it's got an extra octave and another two voices over the P6, but at that price I'd just wait for a good deal on a Jupiter-8...nice feature set, though.
