Thanks, Gilles, I'll check that out. Ashe: those are good questions that I'll probably fail to clearly answer in this non-committal response. I'd say that while deep sample editing capability would be cool, simple playback of my own samples would probably be sufficient if the sample loading workflow...

Yeah, that's kind of what my research so far has uncovered. I know the Yamaha RS700 comes close if you add the AIEB2 expansion, but the using sampler on that thing is really labor intensive, and the onboard sounds leave much to be desired, so I'm hoping there's another option. Recs for a multi-output synth/sampler?
What would y'all recommend for a multi-output (4+) multitimbral synth with sampling capability? The Tasty Chips Electronics ST4 seems somewhat close to what I want, but I don't really need a sequencer/tracker. Priorities would be for easy sample loading and parameter accessibility over synth depth. ...
