Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 issues
I am getting signal at Pin 1 (VCF OUT) but not Pin 13 (VCA IN) on this chip This would seem to indicate a problem with either the 7.5 K resistor or the 3.3 uF capacitor between these pins? Cold solder joint at Pin 13 or one side of 7.5K resistor would make the most sense. Try measuring for continui...

Re: Ensoniq ESQ-1 issues
Update: After cleaning the contacts on the ribbon cable I got all the soft buttons working Now onto the missing voice issue. Thinking maybe to start by testing control voltages going to Voice Chip 1? I'm assuming when you said that you swapped previous voices, you were referring to the CEM3379 chip...

Re: Yamaha DX7 MKI midi output maybe damaged
I believe there is a logic inverter chip which is stuck between the MIDI Tx pin on the CPU and the MIDI out port. If you're lucky, that's the issue.
Best way to be sure would be to use a logic probe on the CPU to see what it's sending out for MIDI.

Re: VST sound?
Where does the 'sound' from a VST actually come from? ... is it totally dependent on your computer's sound card and/or processor and if so, would that mean that the same patch for any given VST would sound different on each computer? If you're talking about the sound that *you* actually hear while ...

Re: SY77 stuck in song mode
Power on normally, then sequentially hold [VOICE], [BANK D], and [8] so that all three are held all at once. That should put you in self-test mode where you can check if all the panel buttons function. If the panel button test fails or if you can't get into self-test mode because the panel buttons d...

Re: Prophet 600 - No Response from controls
There are a couple revisions of the P600, and this is a bit of a shot-in-the-dark, but: I think there's a 4174 logic chip on the panel board, or the largest connector going between the panel board and the mainboard which may lead to that symptom. I'm not P600 expert, by any means, so I could be tota...

Re: the 8-out expander for ensoniq eps classic, worth it?
The sound of the EPS classic is really great. The advancements of the ASR10 make it a much more useable machine.... & you can transfer those EPS samples over. Yep. That's one of the best ways to do it, in my opinion. EPS keys + ASR10 rack = widest range of sound/features with smallest package for E...

Re: Roland JX3P issue
There should be a ribbon from the mainboard to the front panel which carries the grouping signals for the LEDs. Probably just needs a little wiggle/reseat. P.S. Marked as CN6 (connector 6), I think. I'm also assuming you mean 9-16, not 8-16. P.P.S. Since they have eventually lit up, it's probably ju...

Totally generic and non-specific to Blofeld idea:Burial_Grid wrote:I've tried multiple power adapters. Used it in various rooms, which rules out interference. I've tried it with and without MIDI and USB cables plugged in.
Bad (cracked / cold solder) joint on the ground lead of the power input.

Is the issue that the physical disk is not visible? Or is it that the logical volume can't be explored?

Re: How to make an ensoniq cdrom anyone?
Concerning the Roland/Akai/Kurzweil/EMU sampler format, do you have any magic tricks? Yay, Yekuku! :) That's a broad question... E-mu Emax II and EIIIx volumes are very easy to make with EMXP though. I guess it depends on what you're starting with and where you want to end up. @blueknob: Not that i...
